Losing Rolex Virginity

Hey

I am looking to purchase my first Rolex in the coming months and would really appreciate some advice on where to purchase it from.

I am still undecided on which model, either the classic Sub or the GMT 2.

I am due to go on honeymoon to Las Vegas and LA in August and wondered if it would be financially better to buy my watch from the States or back here in England?

I have seen many old posts on various sites etc supporting buying it aborad due to tax reasons... but wasnt sure if that would be the case still??

I know the RRP here in England are £5250 for GMT and £5320 for the Sub but can not seem to find a true price to trust from the States.

Any help and sensible advice would be appreciated!

Thanks

Check out the for sale section as a guide. Buying from one of these trusted sellers wouldn't be a bad idea either.

while shipping to the UK might be expensive (in terms of customs duties), trusted TRF sellers can send to the hotel you will be staying at in the states (DavidSW did this for me). just something to keep in mind when comparing prices.

oh, and, congrats on the wedding and welcome to TRF.

I think it would be cheaper for you to buy it from an AD in the USA because you will not have to pay taxes.

It would be impossible to get a SS sports model from the Heathrow duty free and if you buy from TFR and shipped across to the UK you will have to pay VAT on top of the shipping cost so it would work out more expensive for you

You can find the USA price list here in the forum

Good luck making the tough choice b/t the Sub and GMT. That's going to be harder than deciding where to buy.

Are you sure you really want to honeymoon in Vegas????? That's a place for the bachelor party not the honeymoon. ROFL. More seriously I assume you are trying to keep from paying taxes? I have no idea what the laws are When you bring newly purchased watches into the UK but I'd think if done legally you still have to pay taxes. If you are trying to bring it in without paying the taxes I wouldn't have the box on me as that would be a dead giveaway it's new. After all the stories about buying watches out of the country just seems like a hassle especially if it's shipped and it goes through customs that way.

Buy it from a trusted seller and wear it home...put the paperwork in your pocket. Ship the box back maybe? Not sure what customs could do to you for an empty box. Worst case you are out some cardboard.

Buy from a trusted seller & have the watch shipped to your hotel, that should lure you out of the room to collect

Seriously, many congrats on your impending nuptials & new watch

I was married in a helicopter over The Strip in 1997, .. fantastic place, you'll have a blast !!

Congratulations. I've been to Las Vegas in August, it's just 3 degrees cooler than Hell. Make sure you stay in a hotel where the pool has lots of shade. Mirage yes, Paris no.
