Early Submariner with Arabic dial?
Hello!
I'm a new member (just found this forum) and figured my first post ought to be a good one. So.... A friend of mine just laid his hands on a 1950s era Submariner. The dial is marked 100m=330 ft, Submariner. The weird part is that the hour chapters are all Arabic numerals (1 thru 12) in a sort of German or Gothic type font. (I'll try to post a photo anon). I've never heard of this and thought I'd toss it out there to those more knowledgeable than I am. Has anyone every heard of such a thing? Thanks in advance! Tralfaz |

Welcome!
Several early references used 3-6-9 dials. I can't think of one that used all arabics. |

Thanks!
I'm aware of those early 3-6-9 dials (for a military contract, I believe). It's the full-Arabic thing that's really got me stumped! |

Welcome to TRF, Tralfaz.
I don't see a full Arabic dial Sub referenced in Vintage Rolex Sports Models, so I can't help you, sorry. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people here, though, so hopefully one will be along shortly. In the meantime, a photo would be great.

Welcome to TRF!
Searched through the many pics of Subs in the books "2421 Rolex-Uhren" by Kesaharu Imai. He pretty much shows ALL different types of dial, but NONE of Sub dials had arabic numerals ALL the way around the dial. Only at 3, 6 and 9 on the Military Issue Sub. So I am afraid it is a fake

Impossible to be original Rolex dial, for sure refinished...
Vintage submariner models came only with 3,6 and 9 Arabic Numerals!!! |
