Negative comments about your watch?
I had a meeting last night with a new client, we were talking for a while when he leant over to pull something from his bag, I looked at his wrist and noticed a 42mm Planet Ocean. We finished our meeting and went for a drink, I enquired about the PO and we got talking watches, he asked what I was wearing so I took off my 16713 and handed it him. He looked it up and down and flippantly said 'that's not my cup of tea' then handed it me back .
Has anyone else recieved negative comments about their watch? If so do they bother you? |

There is no right or wrong when it comes to personal taste.
But, for the same reasons many of us are attracted to Rolex as a brand, some people will be put off it. Like it or not, Rolex comes with a fair bit of "brand awareness" baggage........ But I agree, it's a little strange not to complement someone on their taste no matter how much you dislike it unless you're very familiar and know them well. |

Let me translate...
'that's not my cup of tea' = man I'm soooo jealous that you have a better watch than me.

I doubt that. I know it's hard to believe this but not every watch aficionado thinks Rolex is the best watch. To the OP, I think you are reading into his coment negativly. I don't think that was a negative coment at all. It's not like the client doesn't have a beautiful watch, he's not watch ignorant, just not into Rolex. He should have said "very nice" and moved on. Be careful when you take your watch off and hand it to someone without them asking to see it. That might seem a bit forward and presumptuous.

Better to be quiet than to say something negative in that situation IMO. Maybe he lacked social skills.

The man is either jealous or has absolutely no class at all ...
Forget about him.

Wow, I hope you reply that you were 10 drinks deep and not on the first one. It may have just been an opinion, but there's something called common courtesy...

Over on another forum, a lot of the Omega fans profess a dislike for Rolex. I think most of these people don't have a clue what they really think, but they just follow the crowd.
In fact some of them eventually buy a Rolex, after months of bashing them. I'd just laugh it off. |

Good thing for him he's a buyer not a seller - just sounds like his social skills are lacking.

Yes and mostly came from people who wear no Rolex......As a fact, I don't really give a damn of all negative things they said to my 116610LV.

Because he is your client, I think he try to test your mood when receive bad comment :))
However most Omega wearer hate Rolex... If you and he met many times, it is not a big deal but if it was the first time 2 two met, he was quite rude |

Not really. I have two Omegas, and lots of people on here own and proudly wear both brands. Personal taste and manners are two entirely different traits...

I have to agree with you, I have a Rolex Datejust and a Omega SMP, Omega Deville and Geneve which I rotate regularly. I think both brands have an equally interesting history.

Were you wearing it on the NATO strap?
The reason I ask is because if you were maybe that's why he made the comment. Either way he could have a bit more tact, but most people do not.
