In need of advice ....

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and looking for advice. I'm looking to purchase my first rolex and was wondering about AD discounts. I'm looking to buy a datejust II with white gold bezel and diamonds as well as a GMT Master II. I stopped by my local Rolex AD earlier in the week and was lucky to speak with the owner. He said the best he could do for me was 10% of the datejust but 0% on the GMT master. Does this sound good or should I expect a better discount.

I also have an AirKing that was given to me a while back and I'm looking to sell it. What can I expect to get for it. It has a T serial number which I belive dates it around 1998. It was serviced in 2003 and again in 2009. I have the inner and outer box as well as booklets. Watch is in good condition.

Thanks in advance for any help and advise. Looking toward to posting pics of the new watches once I get them.

I just got a new DJII so maybe I can give you some perspective. The retail sticker on mine was $9200 CAD. I was able to get it for ~$7000 (before taxes). So roughly a 25% discount on a brand new DJII at the AD.

Is this watch in the store right now or would they have to order it?

I did not get this discount right off the bat and had to press for it. I pretty much let the sales rep know that I was going to pull the trigger at his store or elsewhere. We have 2 ADs in my city so I was straight forward in that whoever gave me the best reasonable offer would have my business. Competition always tends to fair in the buyer's favour

A 10% discount from a US Dealer is more rare than the Forum makes it seem.. I have never been offered that on a SS model, although it happens frequently on Gold and Platinum models.

Retail for the DJ II watch you describe is over $11,000.. getting it at close to 10,000 would be a very good deal

I wonder why that is unless demand is so high that they don't need to justify a discount. The AD that I went to here in Canada clearly was willing to win my business.

I would assume that the US, in certain areas, has a competitive landscape between ADs. I would figure that a seasoned buyer could secure a decent discount if this were the case.

Thanks for the info. So, I shouldn't expect a discount on the GMT SS?

<Sigh>

Someone will be along to pay full price at an AD.

No reason to discount

Come to South Florida! Unless it's precious metal or been in the AD for a long time discounts do not exist. I will quality that with - if you are a good customer discounts are available depending on just how good of a customer you are.

Thanks. I figured Miami discounts wouldn't be as much considering the lack of AD and high demand down here.

If you like the watch and are ok with the price get it. Buying t an AD vs this forum to me is deciding if you want the AD experience or wuld you rather save some $$. Good luck I hope to see an incoming thread soon!!

I would say it depends on how much product they move. I was able to get a very good discount in a small town about 3 hours away but my local AD will only discount cretin models.

I would seriously consider dealing with DavidSW, since you can do a face to face...He'll treat you better than any AD will.....
