Help Please...Should I keep it or send back???
Hello All,
I just received this watch from FedEx this morning. My lovely wife thought it would be a great gift and an investment because she said she got it for a steal at $6K from a colleague she met at a convention. This could be my 2nd Rolex as I have a 116613LN that I got earlier this year. This watch is a 16600 Z-series BNIB (no name and address on the warranty papers) and the plastic is still on the bracelet and the watch. Since it was a surprise, I'm very grateful for my wife buying me this tidbit, but I must admit having some reservations on whether or not I should keep it since it's a tad similar (in my unexperienced eyes) to the Submariner I have - albeit an SS vs. TT. I believe I have seven days to consider keeping it. Should I keep it? If I do...is this a better beater than my Submariner or should is this more of a Safe Queen (given that it's been in a safe since it was bought in late 2007) than my Submariner. Thoughts and advice welcome please...any enabling words to convince me to hang unto it are most appreciated as well. I thought my wife had gotten a DSSD (that's what she said it was anyways - poor dear... ) - I guess I'm just a tad disappointed? Thanks, Tim |

I totally agree. This watch is special already because your wife bought it for you

What a wonderful surprise - you have a very thoughtful wife!!
I have had a DSSD twice before and flipped both times, and certainly prefer the SD. I would most certainly keep it given the watch is a present from your wife, and the fact that I think it is a great watch... but only you know the answer.... I would keep 100%.... |

A keeper IMO, certainly as it is from your wife and what a wife she is As for wearing it or not I am not much for "saving" a watch and throwing it in a safe. It was made to wear and enjoy and that is exactly what I would do. Sure it will be worth less than an unworn discontinued model but who cares, that's my opinion anyway for whatever it is worth

It's an OK price - others have sold in the 5500 to 6500 range in similar condition for a full set.
I'd say keep it because you could resell easily if you later change your mind. AND you'll keep the spouse happy!

BNIB SD? score!!! but, that's just me. if you're not feeling it, flip it. she'll understand (she already understands "enough" to have surprised you with it in the first place).

By far my favorite! I also have a SubC and DJ but as a daily watch watch prefer my old school SD. Less flashy and I am not afraid to get my hands dirty with it on and in my opinion its an all around great watch.its discontinued and will I.M.O. be easy to sale if ever need be. My DJ on the other hand is my least favorite and a gift in 07 from my wife. Never ever wear it so the wife gave me the go to sell the DJ. She wants me to enjoy all my watches even the ones as gifts from her. So if your not happy with it then return or sell and get something from her that you absolutely love and enjoy. Cya D.

Based on your final sentence, if you're not so convinced, if I were you, I would send it back and pick up another one, with your wife too ...

Well I read between the lines and while all the above posts are warm and fuzzy and PC I would be honest with my wife and trade up for the DSSD. it is toooo much money for you not to have what you really wanted and I think your wife will understand that as well. as a WIS you will appreciate the DSSD way more than the older sub.
Not meant to offend your wife who is truely great but just trying to answer honestly. tom |

Dude!!! Are you kidding me? Your wife got you the timepiece!!!! Wear that Sea-Dweller until the wheels and gears fall off!!! I see that you said you will wear it with pride, so good on you! There will be many more timepieces to acquire, most of us have multiple timepieces in our collection of similar lines with different colors and/or fonts! Enjoy buddy!

Keep it, looks great on you and plus your other Rolex is TT. Will be
nice to have a daily wearable steel Rolex. Took a lot of courage for your wife to purchase that for you; watches (like handbags/jewelry)are quite personal and I'm sure she spent some time finding you the right piece. Congrats and enjoy Namor!! |

The "great gift" was from your wife. Think this through before you make a decision.
Good luck. |
