It had to happen at some point, even though I am careful.
I had just given given it it's bath and had put it on a towel on the counter to dry, when it fell from the counter and onto the floor, a ceramic tile floor, face first. My first thought, okay my first thought was exactly the same thing I said before my worst car accident, six years ago. OOOOHHH SSSHHH***TTT!!
My second thought as I stood there is, the crystal is totally shattered, I am so screwed. So I picked it up, and nothing, crystal is fine, bezel is fine, and it's ticking. I then set it to the official time, and as of last night, it's -2 seconds. It used to be -1. Cannot believe it!

What I've learned: no more baths in the kitchen, a few more grey hairs, and what a fantastic watch!

I'm really glad your watch is in good shape!

Your post is so funny, though, because if I didn't already know I was reading a watch forum - I would think yours was a paragraph or two about giving an infant his first bath. Except babies don't have crystals, and don't gain/lose seconds.

Maybe I'm just too much of a mom...

That's one tough Rolex you've go there. It's hard for anything to beat a tile floor! I'm glad to hear your watch wasn't damaged.

My Sub has experienced impact with concrete (60MPa, Marine Grade), steel girders and reinforced double glazing.

10 years on, +2 a day.

That happened to me once...I picked up the watch and it was fine,,but later in the afternoon it was 15min late.
I went to my local AD and they fixed the problem in 24 hours.

Some pivot thingy was replaced and the watch was cleaned
( actually I thougth the brougth the wrong watch because it was soo sparkling).

Glad to hear your GMT is A-OK.

I have had a similar experience, when I was about 11 I had an AWESOME talking watch, you know the ones where you push the button and the watch says in the most monotone manner "The time is 12 o 4 pm". I had a bath or shower and it fell from the sink top onto the bathroom tiles - :( It died...

Wow, David, you were REALLY lucky there!

Normally, Rolex and tiles floors do NOT like eachother!

But I guess it proves that Rolex IS a sturdy watch!

However, keep an eye on its precision the next days and maybe you should have the crystal double checked, just to be sure.

Man...you were lucky.
I dropped my pepsi GMT on a tile floor about 10 years ago. The crystal was shattered and movement all jacked up. 5 weeks and 970 USD later, I learned my lesson, which I share with other (mostly new) Rolex owners: ALWAYS have your watch insured!

I guess I've taken my GMT Master's toughness for granted.

After 21 years it looked like it had gone through a meat grinder, and it kept time to +10 seconds a month.

Yes, it looked bad, but it worked great!
