Love/Hate relationships. What do you like and dislike about your Rolex?

I love my DSSD dearly, to say the least. There are a squillion things I love about it. BUT, inevitably there are pros and cons to everything in life....

I love the ring lock ring around the dial of my DSSD. It's an engineering marvel that is an important structural part of of its waterproof system. It serves a very important purpose and I love it how Rolex has shown it off by exposing it around the dial.

But to a degree I also dislike the ring, as I also prefer a bigger dial that stretches out to the bezel instead of having a ring.

I love its maxi dial.

But I dislike its matte finish, as I prefer a glossy dial (like on my SubC) instead.

What are some of the things you like and dislike about your Rolex?

I'm not too fond of the hollow centre links on my GMT II. They sometime rattle when I'm driving.
What I love about the GMT is the interchangeable bezels. You can't beat 3 watches in one. I'm sporting an all black insert on my GMT at the moment.

I have had love/hate relationships with all my watches until last week. I bought a DSSD and it is the culmination of all the things I have ever wanted in a watch. There is not one thing that I dislike about it. It took me alot of watches to finally find what I was looking for long term.

The TT DJ in my avatar is my grail.

If I didn't love it I'd get something else!

Dan- great comment!

out of curiosity- how many watches did it take you to get there? And how many of them were ROLEX?

The only complaint I have about my Yacht-Master is how high maintenance the bezel is. It is a little vulnerable to scratches and dings (compared to the other sports models), and VERY expensive to replace or service.

With that being said, IMO the bezel is a large part of what sets the YM apart from all the other sports models, and there is not another SS Rolex model I'd rather wear

There are no cons to any of my watches from my perspective.

I bought them after considerable thought with a bit of love at first sight.

I think that my Sub is more versatile for everyday wear, but the Explorer and the DJ are also great for daily wear and especially those times when I don't want to wear a large watch.

I'm pleased was punch with mine.

The 216570 is everything I ever wanted in a modern Rolex and I sure flipped a lot to get to this point. I don't hate much about the older stuff either. My hate relationship with Rolex isn't about the watch but the fact my watch isn't so rare and that RSCs can get away with trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

i hate it says "rolex" on the dial. can't really share my passion of horology with strangers, they'd just look at me and be like "why are you showing off your rolex?"

There's actually a famous post about this on TZ. The gist of it is, "I want a Rolex, but I don't want it to be a Rolex".

I love almost everything about my 16610 and 16600, except for:

... the cyclops on the 16610. I'm near-sighted so I don't need the magnification and the cyclops distorts and clutters the dial to my old eyes.

... the dial size to thickness ratio of the 16600. Great watch but it's a little chunky for the smallish dial.

Minor stuff. Love my DSSD except that it does have too many writings on the dial. Rolex did not need to include "Sea Dweller". The ring didn't have to have the GEV or RLS info; in fact that ring was not a 100% necessity so that the dial could've been bigger and different than the maxi dial used in the SubLV, SubC, etc. My opinion only.
