Found this in my basement!

Greetings TRF,

I was in my basement earlier tonight enjoying a good lurk on the forum when a little movement on my left caught my attention. I took a little look and to my surprise one of those things was on the floor...

This is not the actual one.

As soon as I saw it I stopped moving, I didn't want to scare it and lose it in my basement but while I was thinking about a plan it started to move under my printer's table. I quickle went upstairs to get a little Glad plastic bowl with a cover and went back in the room to get it. Long story short, I had to kick the table a little bit to make it move behind my computer desk and move the said desk along with some wires very slowly to capture it! Here's the actual one (a rather big guy might I add).

Now I'm not a fanatic animal lover but I hate to make them suffer and kill them, therefore I had to come up with an idea to bring it outside. Now I couldn't simply lift the bowl and put the cover because I was afraid it would run and jump away to I had to find a temporary cover in the meantime...

This did the job perfectly!

Is it safe?

I then lifted the bowl and the piece of paper, placed the cover on the other side and went in the backyard to let it go (please excuse the mess on the table, we had wind and the trees in the yard lost a couple of small branches).

Funny thing is, when I took the bowl off the grasshopper stayed there and didn't move. Needless to say I took advantage of the situation...

Please accept my apologies for the dust in a couple of pictures. As stated, I got it from behind my desk so obviously it isn't the cleanest place around...

I think it was amazed by my watch...

And here is a video I had the time to shoot, that's how we got separated!

It was quite a funny and nice experience! I'm not really hoping to find a lot of those in my house but it sure is amusing to capture them and release them in the wild!

Thank you for watching, feel free to comment!

The video isn't loading on my phone. I'm thinking my wife is taking all the internet or maybe someone flushed a toilet.

But you do have me curious.

Carl, he looks kind of like this guy; a camel cricket. Glad you let him go outside.

Oops... Dang, that was from earlier today....

I mean THIS guy:

I mean THIS guy:

You guys made me laugh quite a bit!

It was quite dusted (if I may say it like this) but I'm sure it got over it! I was hesitating to give it a name but I wasn't sure if it was going to be a Larry or a Gwen so I've decided to forget about it and just let it go. As stated, I wouldn't have liked to kill it and it would have made me feel rather bad.

I hope you enjoyed the video (for those of you who, unlike Craig, use their computers sometimes instead of their bloody iPhones. Just saying Craig...).

But I like them.

As a matter of fact, I think I'll get me a bag of chocolate covered ones today.

You need one of these Carl although its not wise to feed from a wild source just encase the bug been subjected to some sort of pesticide.

Looks like some kind of serial killer setting you got going in your basement with the stained table and foreboding shadows. Advice: Do not go down to Carl's basement to view his "NOS 6263".

No need to worry Peter, I'd never give anything to my tarantula but her bacteria and pesticides free food!

Now you know the girlfriend doesn't want me to have a tarantula but perhaps those pictures would make her change her mind, she doesn.t know they can't eat those outside bugs...

Carl, you've got too much free time on your hands.

This from the guy who still hasn't figured out what to feed the toads outside of my springhouse.

And buys mini carrots to toss to the bunnies, and corn for the turkeys.

Some sort of beetle managed to get into my basement in Spain last year......

Maaaan, you wouldn't believe the noise that little blighter made....... and the basement which is all stone tiles was sort of amplifying the sound..... I'm not exaggerating when I say it was deafening...... but when you got close to it, the noise stopped completely.... so finding it behind furniture was quite hard. In fact the noise was so loud you couldn't actually tell precisely where it was coming from.......
