Icon8 Just got scammed, b careful out there

Had watch posted fs @WUS. Was contacted by a new member who claimed that he joined just to buy my watch. For "HIS" protection he asked me to place it on EBay, I did and he paid immediately. Turns out that the payment is not cleared and may clear Aug 2nd! Yep, ECheck! Even though he has 70+ positive transactions I know I was conned.
This all happened today and I still have the watch which I will not send of-course! But for sure ill get a negative rating in my otherwise perfect score plus I'm not sure if I should cancel the transaction and return the funds?!? Will those funds come out my checking account?
So far I emailed the buyer saying I will not ship until funds clear. Of course, now that the cat is out of the hat there is no response! Before I posted on EBay he was on top of emailes (about 6 total).
Here's a link from EBay about the scam. Sellers tread carefully!!!!
Forgot the link, here it is:
http://reviews.ebay.com/LATEST-SCAM-...00000002382959
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

A negative ebay rating is better than a losing a watch to a scammer.

I'm also sure that eBay will wait until the funds have cleared. Just to be sure once the funds have 'cleared', perhaps you should just refund the money.

No it isn't, wish I was as eloquent. But it represents what's going on. After 4 emailes sent to the buyer he finally responded claiming he paid immediately and pressuring me to send the watch. I'll give Paypal a call and see what's what.
Can't even cancel the transaction and return the money bc it woud come out of my checking since HIS funds are on hold.
Never again will I sell to someone without references or outside TRF .

Wait till funds clear then send watch. If he doesn't like it too bad! This is exact reason I NEVER do any transactions out of the box or norm and deal only with people I know and trust. Asking you to list on EBay is one of the strangest requests I have heard yet. Lastly--also the reason I would not accept anything other than a fed fund wire unless from a trusted friend.

The article in question was first noted back in 2006.
Yes, updated in July, but the scam is still the same.

Don't accept Paypal E-check is the safest course of action, unless you're certain of the outcome prior to sending the goods.

Arent you supposed to wait for the funds to clear before shipping anyways?

Even if he leaves you a negative feedback... You can request ebay to change the feedback because you didnt do anything wrong. Wait for the funds to clear. If it clears and paypal states you are protected.. Ship the watch and youre good to go. Use a service that gets sifnature delivery confirm and buy insurance foe you.. Not the buyer.

I agree if you wait til finds have cleared you should be good to go. If you get negative feedback seems like eBay will most likely delete it due to funds never clearing.

Good luck!

You would think that is the case. I had almost the same thing happen and was left negative feedback by a scam like this. Ebay sided with the scammer, even though I was never paid, and they never received the watch. Ebay said a transaction occured and the feedback was not reversable. I don't sell on ebay anymore, needless to say. I had over 190 transactions with perfect feedback, and they took the side of a scammer. There is no seller protection on ebay anymore. Thank god for TRF!

As stated above, above all else, do not send the watch until funds have truly cleared and all is good to go. In the meantime, send him a link to the scam info as well so that he knows exactly why you are being cautious. If he's one of the good guys, he'll understand and accept the wait as part of the community that must endure the process because the bad guys are out there. If it all goes south, your emails will also be part of the documentation you'll be able to use to correct the bad feedback. You shouldn't be nicked or ticketed for following company-posted road signs to safely navigate a rough terrain. He'll be booted, and your record will be restored, and after that you can do what you want to avoid situations like this again.

This is why i would never sell/ buy a high end item on eBay. To many variables where things can go wrong. Do not send him the watch until payment has cleared. Come to think of it do not send him the watch at all if you think he has malicious intent. Even if his payment clears he can still file a claim with PayPal claiming that the watch is fake or damaged and return a package containing an item of equal weight back to you; keeping both your watch and receiving a full refund in the proces.
This is not fiction. It has happened before to someone here on TRF!
Beware.

E-Check is just as safe as Regular PP Instant Payment.
E-Check takes 3-5 business days to clear. Do not ship until you are advised it is cleared.
In fact, the only charge to you for E-Check is $5; so PP will not charge the common fee of 3%. You get to retain more of the funds..
Be patient...

sorry about the waste of time you went through mate...
ebay and craigslist is very tricky business... once someone pays (clear or not) the feedback is permanent and cannot be removed except comment is etc... anyway, better to still have your item and a negative feedback than to loose your item... remember to do followup comment after any negative feedback truthfully... all you can do... gl
