White/silver 15400 Or White 5711?
Good Day All,
I am thinking of getting a new, should I go AP 15400 silver/white dial or Patek 5711 white dial? And why? Here is a photo of the 5711 on me, I will post this on both forums Thanks, Eric |

5711: Aside from the inevitable "better investment" angle with Patek Philippe, the movement is a distinctly better fit for the case and the date is positioned exactly where it should be relative to the dial edge.
Not so for the 15400, which suffers from a case that's too large relative to the movement diameter---many brands are guilty of this (including Patek, with some references) but there it is, nontheless. All of this said, I don't think Patek quality is one whit better in any respect...both the Nautilus and Royal Oak are superbly crafted luxuriously sporty watches. |

AP. Why? Because they spawned the luxury steel watch genre
+ I don't like the white dial Nautilus personally. |

IMO the 15400 has the edges. Personal taste.

Ooo, though one.
15400 for me as it's the ideal size and gives a little more presence on the wrist. 5711 looks a little small on your wrist (IMHO)--however, it's a great looking watch. It's a tough call though, as PP is an amazing brand/piece. You can't go wrong wither way. Can't wait to see incoming! |

Personally, I prefer the smaller case of the 15300, or the 15202 than the larger 15400. Obviously, the Patek has a much better resale value, so if this is important to you, I think you have your answer, unless you are able to find an amazing deal on the 15400, which is unlikely because they just came out.
I think both are great watches, the Patek is a more recognizable brand, so if you want people to know that you have an expensive wristwatch, Patel is a stronger brand (nothing wrong with that). I find the Royal Oak to be more comfortable, and personally, I think it looks a bit better, although, style and looks are very personal. The Royal Oaks, especially considering that you can find some very nice prices on the second hand market, you could spend $8,000-$10,000 less on it than the 5711, so with that left over money, you can get plenty of other very fine watches. But, for many watch enthusiast, we want to have a Patek in our collection, and considering the prices on the larger Diameter dress watches, and current fashion trends towards larger face watches, I don't see myself getting a more affordable Calatrava, so for me the Nautilus and Aquanaut are my only real choices. Back to the question, I love the Nautilus, and I love the Royal Oak, both are great watches. |

All things equal I'd pick the Patek, but since I love both watches I'd save the $12K and buy the AP. I tried on the silver 15400 last week and it really pops!

If you want a white face I think AP trumps PP in this situation. Blue Face Different Story.

I actually tried both recently. Silver 15400 and PP white 5711. I will say that if i havent bought my diver recently, I would pick 15400 cos its very sporty and give me a better feel on wrist. But since i have a diver, I will go for white 5711. I am the minority here. I like this new white dial more than blue dial.
Anyway, I think either one wont go wrong. |

Hi Eric,
Tough call between the two and also there's a price difference. What about the new 15202? I think that's a closer comparison with the 5711, unless you are only looking for a white dial. My preference would be 15202 -> 5711 -> 15400. Cheers, James |

Hi Eric,
I agree with James' order of preference. Doesn't the 15202 also come in white? Just can't get used to the date window of the 15400. |

Sorry if I complicate things but I'm loving the Aquanaut right now and I think you can definately pull it off. All beauties though, you can't go wrong!

The old 15202 comes in white (Evil Bendy has some pics of his), but the new 15202 only comes in the blue dial.
The old 15202 vs white 5711 is a tough one, think I'll have to see the 5711 in person to decide :) Cheers, James |
