Milgauss: Anti-Magnetic Question

Hello guys,

Since Milgauss is the only Rolex watch in the line-up advertise about it is being Anti-Magnetic watch. As of this year, 2012, many new Rolex models have upgraded with parachrome hair spring such as DayDate, Submariner..etc.

My question is, Is Milgauss more anti-magnetic than other models that equipped with parachrom hairspring? If it is, what other design details features in Milgauss more anti-magnetic than other? is it the extra back plate or there are more besides parachrome + back plate combo that are not advertised that people should know about?

Is it possible that Milgauss' uniqueness that is no longer as speical as it used to?

I am just curious....

The Milguass its movement is shielded by a faraday cage, but most Swiss watches including all Rolex watches have to pass the Swiss standard test for anti-magnetic watches .This is to withstand a strong magnetic field of 4800 Amps per meter, and to keeps on running with a maximum deviation of 15- 30 seconds per day.Now this test I am 100% sure that 90%-95% of all watch wearers would never subject or come into contact with such a strong magnetic field. And there are other parts in a watch other than the hairspring no matter what its called could get magnetised. But today if and its a big if a movement gets magnetised its a very very simple process to de-magnetise you could even DIY.Today its mainly marketing with most watches like the Milgauss and the the many dive watches mine is bigger can go deeper than yours factor etc.

I am pretty sure, that Rolex or other watch companies NEVER talk about a Farraday cage - isn't that entire Farraday cage thing an internet hype??

Faraday cages are for keeping out electrical fields and electrostatic charges.

I am aware that electrical fields come together with magnetic effects but a Milgauss has a softiron shield for protection against magnetism - it's certainly NOT a Faraday cage ;)

I believe the current Milgauss's movement (Cal. 3131) has antimagnetic properties in addition to the parachrom hairspring and faraday cage.

This is correct.. much like the balance wheels in Rolex watches are non-magnetic Glucyder, so too some of the Milgauss parts are made of non-magnetic materials where possible, and the Faraday cage helps to keep other parts from acquiring magnetic properties.

Some parts in a regular Rolex that may get magnetized and affect timing are the pallet, escapment wheel, mainspring, as well as a number of other nuts, bolts, and wigglepins..

Too many people read the marketing materials on the Parachrom and assume that it renders the watch anti-magnetic.. it does not. The previous Nivarox hairsprings used by Rolex were non-magnetic as well..

If that's the case, then this whole Parachrom thing amounts to a marketing ploy, and an excuse to vertically integrate the company and keep everything in house. And the ploy worked — at least on me.

Even so, you have to admit that the blue is damn pretty.

Well first the Parachrom was first installed on the new in-house Daytona way back in 2000.Now at this time it was a grey colour and ask yourself this if this hairspring was so fantastic why has is taken around 10 year plus to introduce into most of the line up.Now yes the hairspring is blue but done by a chemical process but its just a hairspring nothing more. And would doubt in the real world would Rolex watch wearers find little or no real benefit over any other hairspring that Rolex have used for decades.

Milgauss has a faraday cage so YES it is more anti-magnetic than all the other Rolex watches.

@Hairdude1: Love your avatar, man. I don't know why. But I do. It's a great pic.

Now, back to Patek.
