I wonder the same thing! Have seen some totally gorgeous vintage Oysters with what is described as a California Dial. Even searched this forum but got no results. What I've seen is a very Art Deco mix of bars, Arabic and Roman numerals on one dial.

There were alot of them put on Tudors also. From what I've seen quite a few of them have been re-painted. Very cool looking dials though
