Airport Security
When you are going through airport security what do you do with your Rolex? Do you wear it through the metal detectors, or do you take it off and send it through in a carry on bag?

Not only airports. I was refused entry into Fenway Park last year because I had forgotten to leave my pocket knife in my car. Had to walk back to the garage to leave it in the car and meet up with the family later.

If I'm not mistaken, this would seem very much akin to a joke...

I normally travel with a cap to help me get some shut eye. At security I take the cap off and pit it in the upside down cap...easy

Mine never sets it off but many times they will ask me to take it off. A lot of watches seem to set it off.

The times that I have flown with my Rolex, I wrap it up in a cloth and put it in my jacket pocket.

Place it in my shoe... Since they make you strip to your underware and make you feel like a criminal... I don't want to have to deal with the TSA scum anymore than I have to....

I travel for work, mostly across timezones, so my GMT LL is always with me. When I go through security checkpoints, I'll often through my watch into the plastic tub with the rest of my stuff, but depending on the country, I'll sometimes put it in a backpack, or someplace else (jacket pocket, etc, just not visible to the naked eye). I've never had a problem or a delay because of my watch. I would never put it in my checked baggage, because my luggage is frequently lost or delayed, and I'm conscious of the fact that the contents are checked every so often by "concerned" governments.

If I'm asked to take of Rollie I just put it in the little box and then wait and watch to make sure it goes in the machine....I'm then through like a whippet so I'm waiting for it on the other side.
Recently I,ve been trying the trick of swinging my arm in to the middle of my body as I go through - and in the past couple of Months I've not set off any alarms (this tip was from a previous thread - can't remember the originator) |

I always wear my watch if Im carrying a second watch I put that in a zipped pocket in. my carry-on bag. I;d never check it in my luggage too much chance that it won't arrive. I go into alot of buildings with metal etectors and have never had my watch set it off.

Go through once with it on to see if it trips the scanner. If it does, the TSA attendant will let you place it in a bowl and send it through, or sometimes you can hand it right to her. I think it's a little safer than just throwing it in your carry-on (usually a notebook bag).

If I remember, I stick it in a zippered pocket of my briefcase. If I don't I toss it in my shoe or in the little bowl or in my jacket pocket.
If I totally forget, I will just wear it through. 95% of the time, the watch doesn't set off the alarm off. The few times that it does, I go back, put it in a bowl, watch it go into the machine, and I'm on the other side when it comes out.

I always wear it as well, tucked under a sleeve. Regardless, the watch doesn't set off the detectors.

In my humble opinion, the safest place for a watch is on the wrist. Never had a problem with aiport security wearing a watch on my wrist.

I wear mine. Why take it off if you don't need to?
