Dilemma: New 2012 YM blue or sub C LV?
Ive have been waiting for the new YM blue since its launching last march 7. Now im in a dilemma between the hulk and the new ym. Do you guys think the new blue ym will be as unpopular as the old plat ym that's why it's the 'most discounted rolex sports watch'? I wouldnt want to own something that's too unloved that will not hold its value.

To answer your question, yes, I think the newer YM will not garner any further attention than it already has! A clasp/bracelet upgrade will draw a few extras, and the dial may attract some others. It is after all, just a slight dial colour change from the old. IMO that is, maybe it will take off, who really knows! As far as buying for investment, no-one really knows that unless you've got a crystal ball, but I do suspect the Submariner will win over every-time!! With that said, never buy a watch with the concept of resale...Buy what you will like and wear!

I'm afraid I can't fully help you out as I never buy watches hoping they will hold their value or that they will be loved by other people, as long as I enjoy them I'm very happy. Having said that, I think I would be tempted to go with the Yacht-Master, it may not be as popular but I find it quite original. Besides, I'm not the LV's biggest fan (mind you, it is a beautiful watch but not my all-time favorite).

The LVC is one of my favorites. I'd pick it over any YM any day.

Pick whichever you truly like and forgot the value element!
Although personally I'd prefer a ym:D |

I would go for the new YM... as well as the dial option, it has an upgraded clasp, bracelet and bezel

Love the blue dial on the new YM-
As others have stated, the Sub will likely hold value better. Buy the watch you like. |

This is a bonus question IMO. If it were me, I would wait to see the new YM blue before I'll make a decision, resale value notwithstanding.
Good luck!

As an owner of a SS/platinum YM (a watch I consider to be essentially perfect for me) I agree that you need to see any watch in person, on your wrist.
I first considered a YM because I loved the Submariner, but I wanted a ladies' watch and Rolex did not make a ladies' Sub. I also loved the TT Blue Sub (one of the most beautiful watches ever made), so I was interested in the TT blue YM. When I saw it in person, however, it did not do anything for me. None of the YM watches were to my liking until I saw the SS/platinum YM. I have been wearing it daily for over 11 years, and still love it. I see on TRF that not everyone is a fan of this watch. Obviously it's a matter of taste, just like cars, fashion, and architecture. When the ceramic Subs, particularly the TT blue, came out, opinions on TRF were all over the place, from "love it" to "Rolex ruined a gorgeous watch." There is no right or wrong, just taste. So, try one on, and see what you think! |

I would wait and see the colors in person first. Both the blue dial and the green dial do not photograph well at all in my opinion. And I would think you would have to really love green to choose that watch. Blue goes with more and goes with the theme of the watch as well. I have always had a soft spot for blue dialed watches though.

For me it would be the blue YM. looks beautiful IMHO. As for resale the sub will always win but buy what you like not for the resale.

I assume from your original post that holding value (as opposed to esthetics) is the important factor here. So, based on history (subs hold value better than YM's), I'd go with the sub.

That blue YM looks amazing. I swore I saw it as the Rolex boutique in Century City here in SoCal. I think the hulk will be the longtime winner in terms of desirability. I would think since the YM isnt such a fast seller, that it would fetch a handsome price in terms of collectibility (since it'll be rare) in the far future.
