It seems that with Rolex, past a certain point "more expensive" = "more ugly".

I would imagine this individual's name would start with...Sultan, King, or Princess as their title instead of Mr/Mrs.

have seen this one before, a little overboard on the diamonds, but if that's your taste, each to their own

It's not to everyone's taste, that's for sure - but neither is the Leopard Daytona...I guess Rolex make a small number of these watches to satisfy a small number of people who like them and can afford the large price tags they come with.

Jewellery only, nothing in the movement that befits the price tag
If I had that $$$ it would be going towards a patek minute repeater

Exactly! ...and when you went to sell it, you'd get most if not all your money back. With this 'thing', you're losing 2/3 the value right off the bat I'd guess...but if you can afford it, then I guess that doesn't matter!

Why? Because they can.

Someone, somewhere will buy it.

Just like violence on TV, I think I've become desensitized to "extravagant" looking watches.

Who would buy it? He (or she) for whom money is no object--and desire is the only consideration.

To those in such a financial circumstance, I say more power to 'em!

(Although were it me, the magnitude of $$ required to buy that would go towards something like a Patek 5016P or Lange & Sohne Richard Lange 'Pour Le Merite'--ah hell, if we're talking centi-millions/billions at ready disposal, make it both and maybe a few more similar pieces.)
