Icon20 iphone 5

So who out there will be getting the new iPhone no matter what the changes are?... As always there is a ton of speculation as to what the "cant live without" changes that have been made.

As previously posted it should look like this...

http://idevice.tv/2012/09/05/video-of-iphone-5/

I know I will be jumping ship to pick that bad boy up!!!!

I'm not sold on elongating the screen without more width.

I could have been happy with a 4s, but bigger battery and more RAM.

If the leaks are accurate, I'll be disappointed. No AT&T LTE anywhere near me currently, the design looks nearly identical to a 4/4s, a taller but narrow screen seems odd to me. Wish it had a rounded back like the 3G/s.

I'm hoping the leaks aren't accurate and it's totally different from what we're seeing. If it turns out apple leaked prototypes to create false speculation, it'll be a huge PR coup for them. Would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.

And yes, I'll get one either way. :)

Im fairly unbiased when it comes to tech, as I type on my iPad, talking on my Droid, and listening to tunes off my PC. All of that said, Apple hasn't done anything innovative with the iPhone since the original. Siri is ho-hum, the size is tiny, its slow, no ports, pricey apps, bad camera, unimproved interface, etc. It is a tasty bit of kit though, especially in 4s trim. As of this moment, the 4s is not even competitive with the vast majority of Android phones (haven't messed with new Windows units yet and BB doesn't count anymore) So for me, I am hoping, not for tiny improvements so all of the Apple fanboys I know can say "see my new iphone has a screen over 4 inches, an 8mp camera, and a revised version of siri", but instead I hope for something thats groundbreaking, revolutionary, amazing. Im tired of having to inform my buddies that my Android phone has all of the same features (and then some) as the phone they just waited 7hrs to buy.......and its 1.5yrs old! I would just like to see something worth cross shopping against Android devices.....

As an Android user I am really disenchanted by its preference to turn itself off and show me the 2000 Space Odyssey Hal red glowing orb rather frequently, or not allow me to receive more than one text in a row without going catatonic. It does not matter how adept it is if it has poor stability.

iPhone 5 cannot arrive soon enough for me.

I have the 4S but the wife has the older 3S so I'll be getting the 5 and she'll be getting mine. At least that's the plan. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

What are your thoughts on the screen quality of the Samsung and HTC that you have there vs. what we saw released today for the iPhone 5?

Personally, size aside, speaking from a quality aspect only, I would say the iPhone has the best image, followed closely by the HTC One X (the white phone in my pic) then the S III and trailed by the Note.

As a photographer, I find the color reproduction on a good LCD to be superior to AMOLED displays. Those look great on menus or man made graphics but skin tones just don't look right. They also seem to lack pure white, with all images leaning towards blue tint.

With that said, the S III is way better than the Note and slightly better than the S II. (not pictured but I have one of those too)

They all have stunning displays and they all have their pros and cons. At the end of the day, it's a matter of preference. In my case, I go for pixel density (iPhone wins) and TRUE color reproduction. (iPhone and HTC One X). The Samsung AMOLED is better in day light though and it looks nice and vivid when playing games.

Another great screen (not pictured, but I have one) is found on the Sony Xperia ION. Really good high end LCD on that.

My investment in 30-pin cables and docks, cases and holders, plus an integrated car kit tells me to keep away from 9-pin connectors

Amen. Unless someone can tell me how a connector change is a net positive in performance or capability...... There could be a valid reason beyond my understanding, but this looks like a really lousy decision to me.

The $30/month increase in my plan that Verzion will force me into if I upgrade is enough to make me happy with my iPhone 4. Yeah I know I could pay full price and sell my 4 to recoup some of the cost, but things like that tend to not work out for me.

Yikes! Are they doing this across the board or is it something unique to your account? $30/month increase is A LOT.

It is my understanding it is across the board. So, it makes more sense to pay full retail. If you can write the phone off as a business expense then it makes even more sense.

It's probably unique to my account. Four phones with unlimited data. That is what I came up with when I used their calculator for the new plans based on my current usage.

I passed on the 4S knowing that predictable Apple would be doing their big refresh this year. Hopefully, I won't be let down.

I'm still using the 4 and I've been airing for something that is mind blowing before making the move. My contract is up and I hope that apple will not let me down. I am scared that I will be disappointed--the 4s wasn't a big enough wow factor for me.

The only thing that matters to me is 4g LTE. With virtual certainty that it is a primary component of the iPhone 5, I'm definitely game.

I went from my iPhone 4 to the Droid Bionic, then Droid RAZR because of 4g and its performance improvement...3g on Verizon is soo slow. They can give me an iPhone 4 with LTE and I'd be happy...I know my RAZR is capable of 30 different things, but the interface is still unpolished (pressing 'OK' after entering the screen unlock password is just simply silly to me...I press it probably 100+ times a day), still needs a degree in computer science to understand some of the settings, and even with its dual core processor and however many gigs if ram, even basic tasks like scrolling through the app menu or long emails result in lag and performance degradation.

One of the former companies I was a part of created software for mobile devices (back in the day Android still had a menu-driven system like BlackBerry) - to me, the Android interface just is not mature or polished enough.

Oh, and I did just read this article - I think it has merits to a degree: http://gizmodo.com/5941817/what-real...y-about-google

"This rumor has been further exacerbated by news that both AT&T and Verizon have reportedly told staff to forget taking holiday around the 21 Sept, which is often the biggest sign of an impending iPhone launch - and FedEx is apparently preparing for 'surge volume' between September 21 and 24."

I stole this quote

I guess our fingers has evolved and increased in length since iPhone 5 is due to have a bigger screen now.

I'll be ordering it, my iPhone 4 is now over 2 years old. It has served me well though. Some occasional hiccups, but those are usually related to the "internet share" feature.

I am preordering it as soon as I can as well. I am using my wife's upgrade eligibility on our family plan and giving her my 4S. Gotta love the upgrade swapping. I was hoping for a dramatic design change, but that's ok. Heres to hoping that the longer and not wider design does not look and feel out of proportion

I tossed around the idea of the iphone, but decided not to: too emersed in Google products, which run seamlessly with Android. Looked at the Incredible 4g. It has the same form factor, we assume, that the new iphone 5 will, and is very, very stable. It is very fast, and moves between tasks smooth like butter. Nothing against the iphone. I say, get what you need to accomplish your purposes. On to the next task.
