Vintage Rolex on ebay
Fellas, I need some advice. I know this is not an oyster case, and anybody can engrave the word 'ROLEX' onto a movement. But I think this is a fake. Any opinions from our esteemed members?

I don`t know anything at all about vintage Rolex but I would not pay anything for a conversion of a pocketwatch with or without an original Rolex movement, there is little or no value here in my opinion.

Personally I think it looks a bit horrendous, not sure what is going on with the dial with so many different markings.

It's a classic California dial with new lume applied during a refinish.

ok heres the deal i own a real one of these with untouched (radium dial), apart from a non original case resprayed dial which is disclosed, the hands are replacements and incorrect style. The movement is a russian copy of a Cortébert, production of the Cortébert brand name stopped in the 1970s. Cortébert used to be one of the highest regarded premium watch brands, manufacturing their own movements, supplying movements to other brands such as Rolex
you need to be careful though, the copies look very similar, the photos below a real one (top photo) and russian below the movment number is slightly different number 526 but you get the idea of what the russians are doing.

It is a typical re-case of a pocket movement but it really needs to be vetted by a really good antiquarian experienced watchmaker.

How can a watch from 1930 have luminescent material on it that still glows?

I like how at the bottom he gives a list of care recommendations.
#2 "Antique vintage watches should not be beaten or dropped because repairs can be expensive" #3 Old watches are not waterproof and you should protect them from all moister. #5 If you get any salt water on your watch you should then immerse your entire watch in regular water to remove the salt. Amazing care guide. Learned something I did not know your aren't supposed to beat your watches. |
