Red Sub on Ebay. Kosher or not?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROLEX-SUBMAR...7#ht_934wt_904
Bezel appears to be not original. Also, rust on the rehaut? Anything else fishy? |

I`d be very carefull with this one,the dail looks too good to be true,it needs to be checked by a vintage expert which I`m not.

I don't understand how this is "mint" with the corrosion and the chip in the dial at 6 o'clock.

This watch was discussed last week in another thread. Personally, I'd pass on this watch for the same reasons as before.
Here it is: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=257858 By the way Frank, this is your second thread on this watch. You seem intent on buying it! Maybe you should get on the phone with the seller and discuss the issues noted on this watch as discussed in the other thread. Maybe he'll give you a bargain basement deal.

Couldn't wait, pulled the trigger. I figure I have his real name, banking info, cell#, office#, etc. Plus the phone conversations were pleasant; my spidey sense says he's trustworthy. I should have it by tomorrow, with the right to return it if not satisfied:-)

Frank, I could be wrong, and if so I apologise to the seller, but please be careful with this purchase.
The dial on any watch is the most crucial/valuable component. The dial on this watch is not declared as being refinished, but I suspect that it may be so or indeed counterfeit. Compare the dial fonts to a known good ft first 1680 dial (link below) and you can see that, amongst other things, the minute markers at 29, 30 and 31 seconds are missing. Also the "Swiss-T<25" marking at six o'clock is sitting too low on the dial (the "S" is below the minute marker) and there is no "-" mark showing after the word "Swiss" Maybe the seller is not aware of these problems, but I would be asking him why are these discrepancies present? PM me know if you need assistance. http://rolex.watchprosite.com/show-n...ost/ti-481641/ |

Haha, am I the only one who clicked this wondering why you were buying a sandwich on eBay?

Thanks, mcjp6! Good catch. There's actually a chip on the bottom that was filled-in, that's why the markers are missing. It's too small to be seen in person, but, when blown-up (or through a loupe) you do notice it.
I was looking on Ebay out of curiosity (my intent was to buy here) but when I called the seller we struck up a good conversation. Found out he was coming to New York and he offered to meet me in person. He also sent me the watch with the right to return it if not satisfied. I had it inspected https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=258960 |

But, from what you say, it seems that you have the situation under control..... I hope that you do not lose out on the deal and that you have the confidence to validate the authenticity of the watch in person, especially so after asking the questions that you did here on the forum. |

Good luck in the validation. It could have been a simple lume touch-up done during a service.
