Buy the seller, not the watch....

....well I am in one of those situations.
I had a guy contact me about a motorcycle I had listed wanting to trade a M serialed DSSD for it.
Came out last night and looked at the bike, wants to do the trade, left the watch with me to get it checked out today. It is worn for sure.
Being somewhat close to the Dallas RSC I am going to try my damndest to make it today.

Thoughts???

It's got the long E's on the case.... I have often seen that indicates a fake

You took a watch without confirming authenticity?
You gave the guy a perfectly good motorcycle?

Thanks for the responses so far.
I have had a couple of people try and sell/trade me fakes and I just Googled the serial and it got hits all over the place. I got nothing back on this one.

You've obviously taken the case back off, so any pics of the movement?

Top to a little plastic container that I put exra links and screws in. I put the spring bars in so I do not lose them when I had the bracelet off.

It might be the lighting, but shouldn't the Ti Back be a darker shade?

I don't like it. I would play it safe and run. Sell the bike and get a deepsea from a trusted seller here.

Won't they take the watch if it's fake? Then all hell's going to break loose with the owner of the watch saying you "stole it"

He knows I am taking it, but not sure if he is aware they would take it.
I have a jewler close that will take the caseback off so I can for sure do that at lunch.
I am not sold that it is fake, but still not 100% it is legit. I am not an expert by any means, but also not a complete dumb ass. If this is a fake it is scary....

There are quite a few threads on here how good the knock-off DSSD's are....be careful.

I guess if you took it to the RSC, you would have to bring the owner with you. If you took it to a AD, it may not be a bad idea to bring him there also.

The fact that the guy left the watch with you and got nothing in return is a big red flag to me. I too have heard there are lots of DSSD good enough to fool a trained eye. Proceed with caution on this one.

Let us know how it plays out.

I thought the rehaut lettering was supposed to be painted onto the ring. In your picture it looks engraved....

Read the sticky "beware" thread, it has great details on this model http://rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=104730&page=6

So even if it is real, what if it's stolen and then in a few years you send it in for service and viola - it's confiscated! Like others, the fact that he left it with you with no collateral is a huge red flag to me. Would you do that for him? I wouldn't.

He came to my house so no hiding from him, but hind-sight knowing it is fake he did not have much to lose and around $8500 to gain if it panned out.

So I took it to the jeweler which was no help, and actually just made me laugh. The brother that I typically work with was not there, and the jack hole that was there barely even came out of his hole.
I told him I had some concerns about the authenticity of the watch as I was taking it off my wrist. He said oh it is fake as he turned to go back to whatever he was doing. I asked how he could tell to which he replied, "A real Submariner has a magnifying glass on the date". I told him this was not a sub but a Deepsea. His response, then it is for sure a fake because Rolex never made that model.

So this became a bigger headache and with the advice and the thread posted above I am now convienced it is a knock off. It is scary good.
It is not a bad deal in the end, I am not out anything and was not really looking for a DSSD although it would have been nice.

THANKS GUY!!!!
