Hi all,

been reading the site for a short time now with great interest and I've decided it was about time I got some expert advice before I joint the Rolex club so to speak

So here's the deal. Got my eye on a nice GMT Master II with the Pepsi dial in a reputable UK watch specialist.

It's graded as 10/10 condition wise, is 2002, has all the box papers etc and is up for just under £2300.

Now my feeling is that its about the right money but then I got thinking. I’m going to the states next year and I was wondering whether I'd be better investing in the new GMT model???

As such are there any of you guys over the pond that would have an idea of how much a brand new 'new model' GMT would cost from an authorised dealer over there.

Any help here would be great as I'm teetering on the bring of buying this one

That sounds a little high priced. Try for about $3500 USD.

The price is actually just a bit steap.

In EUROPE Rolex watches are more expensive than in the States, and in a shop for pre-owned Rolex watches a GMT II 16710 would be sold for about 23.000 DKR in Denmark if the watch is in mint condition and has all its papers and its box (23.000 DKR = 2,200 £)

Now, the new SS GMT IIc is a totally different watch, altogether.

• Different bezel with fewer clicks (24 versus 120) and made in ceramic (the insert)
• SuperCase
• Triplock crown instead of Twinlock crown
• AR coated cyclops
• Maxi dial
• CRB on rehaut (CRB = Chapter Ring Branding - "ROLEXROLEX" / rehaut = angled edge along the dial)
• New movt. cal. 3186 with the Parachrom Bleu hairspring
• Updated bracelet with polished centre links and Easy Link in the clasp

Now, personally I would go for the NEW SS GMT II since I just think the above updates are really for the better

And if you go to the States, you can pick up the SS GMT IIc much cheaper than you would be able to get it in Europe. Maybe you can even get a discount if you use your negotiation skills and pay cash.

Also, you must consider that the "mint" SS GMT II from 2002 would need service very soon, and a full service would cost you around 450 £.

So all in all I for my part would go for the NEW GMT IIc!

I think that price is a little high

www.thebrandedwatchcompany.co.uk are a UK based Grey Dealer that has all 3 GMT Bezel combinations for sale brand new for £2375

Never dealt with them but they seem professional enough.

I'd also phone round a few AD's about availability & discount

I'm getting a BNIB Z series Coke bezel GMT II with jubilee bracelet for USD4500.00 from a grey dealer in NYC.

The price in Malaysia/Singapore for a good used example is around USD3588.00 as BNIB is pretty much extinct in these parts.

Yeah perhaps it is a bit on the steep side but I liked the look of the company; at that time I was looking for a newish GMT with a Jubilee strap (which are virtually none existent in the UK as far as I can see) and as previously noted, they are more costly in Europe than in other countries.

It had just been serviced too and with the 12 month warranty it made me feel more secure about the whole thing than buying one for £1850 from someone with little in the way of provable heritage and then me having to shell out £xxx for a service.

Each to their own I suppose


So does anyone think I'll find the feel off the Oyster bracelet any heavier/more robust than the Jubilee one, or are they about the same???

The Oyster bracelet is considerably heavier than the Jubilee and has a completely differend feel. The clasp is also a "fliplock" style and is more secure..

As far as the solid center links vs. the hollow center link, when worn it is not noticable..

I sold a BNIB one on ebay 3 months or so back and got £2200 for it (Z serial) - black dial..

I would think that 2002 is worth £1900-£2000 realistically...

Welcome, it's a tough call as to what you or we think is value for money.
The GMT IIc is "the New Classic" but the Pepsi is the "original classic", so forget the "value" and go with your heart.
