Polar Explorer - Decision time

Tomorrow I am due to add a white dial explorer to compliment my GMTC and Daytona (black dial). But I am struggling to decide whether to go for the previous gen 16570 or the new 216570. Should I go for the classic look or go for the new style ? Thanks for any help/views.

the new one is amazing. but no wrong decision. i suppose it depends partly on your wrist size and what you are comfortable wearing. it wears larger than your GMTC

Depends on which you prefer the look of and the size you like. Personally I like the bigger size and the newer bracelet is far superior IMO.

I wear the one to the left, so I'm biased. But you can't go wrong with either one. The 16570 wears very close in size as your daytona. In the end, you'll have to try on both and let your heart tell you which. Congratulations!

If size doesn't matter (in watches ; ) you've a choice between the two 24hr hand colors.

I like red...

Get the new one as its larger and will give you something different against the 40mm, plus the bracelet is far superior

i have the new but also like the older model too...

new:42mm just like the super duper sky dweller/ improved movement / cool orange hand & writing / improved larger crown / solid bracelet with ez link / the super case is done right on the explorer with properly tapered lugs imho

old: 40mm traditional, pre over the top size / less expensive / perhaps more balanced? / old style bracelet / a great travel watch

bracelets: personal preference, i like both but i actually prefer the older simpler & cheaper style
lume: personal preference, i prefer the older green to the blue
maxi: personal preference, undecided but the larger minute hand is easier to see in the dark

im just bordering on a curmudgeon i suppose ... but the nail in the coffin are lugholes!

I like the super-sized orange hand on the new model especially that it pays homage to the original one, but like others have said, you cant go wrong with either watch.

216570.
Everything about it tops the previous gen in my opinion.

Since you already have the GMT2-C and the Daytona both of which are 40mm watches, are you comfortable with getting a larger 42MM Ex.2, or want something similar(16570) to your current collection?

I'd probably go w/ the 16570 because of it's size. The 42mm wears a little to large for me.I have a 41mm DJ and the 42mm ExpII wears a lot larger then the DJII.

No question about it I would go for the new one. I have a new Explorer II noir and love the size and fit of the watch. I also have an odd infatuation with orange now...

Seems like we have a split decision. I am tending towards the 216570 - I really appreciate the classic beauty and proportions of the previous gen but feel it lacks presence compared to my other watches - I have a 7" wrist. Also, the tiny bracelet is a negative once you are used to the improved versions.

Based on what you're saying, go 216570. If you go 16570, you'll constantly think of the other one's bracelet and clasp, presence and other "upgrades", while with the new one you'll quickly get used to the proportions and never look back. Next step: incoming!

New all the way, the bracelet and clasp are awesome, the old ones worked very well too, and the new lume is so beautiful! I also like the 42mm size I would go with new on this one and never look back =)

You can't go wrong with either one. I'd probably lean towards the 216570.

Good luck!

I've owned both. Recently traded my 16570 for the 216570. As much as I loved the 16570 the newer reference is my favorite between the 2. If not for the orange nod to the original then absolutely for the upgraded bracelet & clasp.

Aesthetically I prefer the 216570, but it does wear a little large. You mention your wrist is 7" so if you like larger watches, I say go for it.

I loved mine, but traded it because I felt it was just a tad too big for my preference. To be honest, I DO think about the piece still, but I thought I'd try to forget it and move on. Just my luck when I'm introduced to a Sales Manager for a large liquor distribution company I do business with, he glances down at my wrist, and we start talking horology for over an hour. He mentioned he wanted a Polar 216570 next in his collection, so I told him my story about how I had it, let it go, but still kind of missed it. He told me to buy another one, try it again for a few months, and if/when I get sick of it, he would buy it off me! Looks like another white 216570 is in my future after all

I went with a 42 Polar because I have a larger wrist.

Either way, you are not going to go wrong!

I'd go with the new 42 mm version...the new size is great and I really like the orange 24-hr hand.

Imho

The new 216570 is there is on the top of the line of all the models Rolex.
Any time you have a case of less than 42mm looks old and outdated. That's my personal opinion.
