Good place for vintage dials?

Hello all,

Haven't been around much b/c I haven't had the cash to afford a new watch...was trying to avoid temptation. Fast forward to this past Saturday my wife surprised me for my 40th birthday with a 16800 Rolex Submariner Date which I have always wanted. The only issue I have is back in 2001 the watch went to Rolex and they replaced the matte dial with the silver outline marker dial. I would like to score a original 1982 matte dial. Any suggestions on where I could go about doing so? Thanks all!

You can also post a Want to Buy thread in our WTB section.

Could you verify the serial and model numbers? I am not sure a 16800 had a service white gold surround service dial.

Good luck!

I stand corrected. They were fitted with the W/G surround dials.

I had found a search engine type deal on Bob's watches.com that tells you the model year of the watch based on the serial number. I punched it all in and based on the serial they said it was a 1982. From what I have gathered it was the first year for the sapphire crystal but the dial had the matte markers. My watch was serviced by rolex and the dial and hands were replaced with the wg markers...it looks good but I would like to return it to the original dial. Thanks all!
