Serious question.. can a baker wear a rolex daily

I only wear my sub three days a week, the days im not working, because i am afraid of flour getting into the seals and when it mixes with water it turns into a gooey mess..

Its not like im dunking my watch in batter intentionally but it gets pretty messy.

Thoughts??

Well you definitely need a lot of dough to buy a Rolex!

Ok on a serious note, the grains of flower can do a number
on the watch--- If you do not wash it off rightaway then it
would dry up and then you are in a lot of hurt ....

I would not even wear a g-shock when dealing with messy & wet flour...
Not worth it ---

id say yes if you dont mind that your watch will be dirty at the end of the day. all you have to do is rinse it off and it will be as good as new.

I worked for six years as a prep baker wearing my sub daily. I still wear it daily and have never had issues with it or been told by RSC that flour had made it into the watch when I had it serviced. I have had it serviced three times over a 16 year period just to be on top of things just in case.

I would also say yes. It is a sub, it should be able to handle some flour. I would be highly disappointing if not.

Thanks for the input. I was afraid that flour would do a number on the watch..

I doubt flour will flummox your Rolex. Wear it and bake like crazy!

I'd be less concerned about the seals than the bracelet and possible early wear.

As much as I love your watch, I have to say absolutely NO! You list your location as Cali - I'm thinking that's California? If so, you're violating ServSafe policies by wearing jewelry of any type on your hands and wrists. Unless your municipality has some sort of unusual exception to standard ServSafe policies, you're going to get dinged on your next health inspection.

I teach ServSafe (among other things), and it's a pretty big violation for food handlers to wear jewelry of any type, including even medical alert bracelets, on their hands and arms when handling food. It's not a safe food handling practice - bacteria can get in that watch and grow and then contaminate food.

Sorry, I know I'm soapboxing....

No, a baker should never wear a Rolex under any circumstances, period.

Yes you can. However, I know a personal friend a professional baker, she wore GMTIIC as her daily beater, she use the watch to work everyday for few months or so, she only rinse her watch after work. Few months later, she found her bezel completely stucked. Sent the watch back to Singapore service center, found the bezel was completely jam with white flour (harden) due to rinseing after work and she never turn the bezel during the those months.. So make sure you do give it a good turn one in a while just to make sure. Good luck. .. Jen

I think that any Rolex can rise to the occassion... but the local health codes may deflate things

I used to be so sensitive with my Rolex watches and one day when my dad died not long ago I said, what the hell, life is really short, this is a nice beautiful watch that you worked hard for, wear the damn thing and if it gets dinged or scratched who gives a shit, you cant take any of this stuff with you and you can be sure all the vultures who get your stuff when you die will be enjoying the hell out of it so WEAR IT AND ENJOY IT AND STOP WORRYING ABOUT IT, a good local watch shop can buff that thing right up like new for a few bucks.

Seriously enjoy your watches while you can, they are a tool like any other and made to be worn and used, when I finally gave up trying to baby my Rolex and stopped worrying about it I really started to enjoy it and no I am not a rich guy who can just replace it anytime the fancy strikes me the fact that I have a Rolex is a miracle in itself as I am a working stiff like most people but I have one and I decided to finally enjoy it and I havent looked back. I dont bang it around on purpose but I wear it and I dont sweat the small stuff anymore.

There are several masons on here...if a Rolex can handle that, then it can handle a little flour and water!
