Happy Veterans Day to my Dad, the Cold Warrior...

The first pic is from 1951, Korean War. My Dad is #5 from the left. He was the flight engineer.

This pic is 21 years later, in Viet Nam. Note the 1966 GMT Master on his left wrist that he purchased new for $167. I wear it proudly and fondly today.

What a great story. I know how proud you must be of your dad. We are truly greatful for his service. And to have his watch is just icing on the cake. My Grandfather served in this same war. On this day and every day may we be reminded of the men and women who sacrifice their lives in order to protect ours.

X2 Would love to see some pictures please. $167!!!! I had similar opportunities when I served but was too young and dumb (and broke from spending all my $$ on beer at the NCO club) to take advantage.

Here it is today, fresh from the capable hands of Bob Ridley. He aged the service hands to match the patina of the original gloss dial and creamy lumes. I get a lot of compliments on this watch, and the story of it's history makes for great conversation. I asked my father about the GMT hand (whether it was originally the smaller version when he purchased the watch. He said no, it was always this size. It's a II.66).

Awesome watch and story and photos - thanks for sharing! Mine is also a 1966 gilt dial, and also has the original 24hr hand, which is the larger size too.

What a great story behind the watch! If only the watch can talk, oh the stories it would tell. (I wish I can get a Rolex for $167 now lol!)
