Rolex Sale - 25% off New Rolex Models

Hey TRF'ers;

My preferred AD called me earlier to let me know the owner had decided to sell that location and due to this, they have gotten approval to discount some Rolex models to 25% off MSRP.

The only catch, due to such a steep discount, Rolex will not provide a 2 year warranty on the watch. I don't understand how they can do this or if this is standard operating procedure, but this is what I was told.

I have a list of the watches I can post later tonight, but they are mostly men's datejust models, a few Cellini models, a ladies two-tone Yachtmaster and several presidential models on the list just from what I remember off the top of my head.

I'm willing to bet they would be able to negotiate a few good deals on other, non-sale models as well.

If you're interested, please contact Lions Jewelers in Charlotte, NC at 704-556-7747. Ask for Ginger.

PS: I have nothing to gain from this personally or financially, I am just trying to pass along some good deal to TRF'ers who may be in the market.

No matter what the discount if any watch is sold as a new watch through a AD they have a full two year warranty as all Rolex new watches.

That is certainly correct. I bought my wife and my Datejusts at J E Caldwell when the went out of business. I called Rolex in NY first who advised they would honor the warantee as long as it it was purchased from an active AD at the time of sale.

is lions an 'active' AD or did they lose their AD status recently hence the deal. that said, i still assume that rolex would and should honour the 2 year warranty.

Nice of you Tyler.

I called them. They are selling NOS as 'pre-owned' when they indeed are brand new. That way Rolex doesn't have to warranty them. Mainly gold pieces, one serti sub.

25% off list is not exactly a great deal, for those models you've listed atleast

To answer some of the questions, I do not know why there isn't a warranty. I questioned this as well and I was told that is what Rolex dictated in order to get such a discount.

Yes, they are currently an AD and will remain an AD. The owner has several stores in the GA market and wanted to sell his only store out of state. I know the owner personally and this was whet he said. All of his other locations are currently AD'd and will remain AD's.

A friend of mine was offered a DDII for 20% of retail and that was not from a dealer that was closing down. This offer is nothing special.

If you aren't getting a warranty why even bother with buying a new watch ? The watch could of been sat in the AD for 5 years for all you know.

Nonsense to 'save money' and not get a warranty. At that point, buy truly used out-of-warranty and save even more.

Agreed, 25% off an all-gold model is what I expect you could get at many ADs with a hard bargain, and it comes with warranty, local service, and a smile.

To everyone that states 25% off isnt a good deal well keep in mind there are alot of people on Trf that have never got a discount period. So IMO that is a great deal to those that dont have a long history with there A D like some of us. Even if the discount isnt on more popular models. If I was in the market for something they had even I would call them and try to work them down some more. But unfortunatley I am not right now...

Often separate retail outlets are kept corporately separate, especially when they are in different States. The inventory has been taxed 5 times over and may serve the owner better as part of a bankruptcy proceeding.

No aspersions towards the retailer - it's just business.

He's selling the business to another jeweler. Plus, he has all the inventory you could want at his other locations.

25% still sounds a good deal for those of us who aren't great at negotiating!

I went to the Rolex.com website and searched under Retailer Locator...selected North Carolina and then Charlotte to be exact. Lions Jewelers does not show up as an AD on the Rolex website. I assume Rolex is on top of things and would update the site if Lions was/was not an AD...this probably explains to me as to why the non-warranty...

Windsor Fine Jewelers in Philips Place dba Lions Jewelers......everyone who keeps questioning the AD status, I know the owner on a first name basis. He has not lost AD status, the warranty issue was resolved several post up.

Thanks for the clarification; looking forward to the list!

Not sure if you can answer this, but would the "warranty card" with the serial number/model number be included, even though it is new but classified as pre-owned? Also, would they state it as pre-owned on the reciept/documentation vs. new? (I'm asking because I planned to get them insured if I do purchase from them and it may cause an issue for me with insurance regarding the documentation.)

No idea....that is a question you would have to ask Lions.

None of that will matter for insurance purposes. If you buy then your receipt (or optionally an appraisal) sets the insured value. Cards, papers, etc are meaningless for insurance.

Does this mean that the cost of a Rolex warranty is 25% of the retail price?

Warranty costs usually run 6-8% of mfr. cost

Usually from my experience. You get a 2 year warranty from Rolex and then a 2 year from the dealer. So you'll definitely get the Rolex warranty, just not the dealers warranty. This makes perfect sense since they are shutting down.
