Why don't women get why a man likes a nice watch

Ok going to probaly get hung by all the women on here but here's just my feelings, and wonder if anyone else feels the same. My wife loves to buy nice clothes, shoes, bags along with thousands of make up items to look good, and when all dolled up says it makes here feel good. However when I say that wearing a nice watch makes me feel good she doesn't get it and says a watch is a watch. Anyone else get this and have partners who don't get their obsession for a nice watch.

Please don't generalize.

YOUR wife 'doesn't get it', but many women do! It's a shame that she doesn't understand, but perhaps over time, that will change when she realizes how much it means to YOU.

As far as I'm concerned, spouses are BOTH entitled to enjoy their respective hobbies and have nice things, within reason of course. It all comes down to priorites and being reasonable.

I agree. And it's also generalizing to say that "a man likes a nice watch." Not all men do, by any means. Most men and women couldn't care less.

I don't understand most of my husband's (expensive) hobbies. But they make him happy... and we can feed the children and fund their educations and plan for retirement... so I don't bother him about it. At least most of the time.

My friend, speaking for myself I don't even want my girlfriend to understand my passions...imagine if she had to become as crazy as I am...

Well said Karis! I think it's always a matter of personal taste and opinions and I don't think the gender of somebody has anything to do with it. My girlfriend doesn't have a watch and a few of my friends, whether they are men or women, don't have the passion I have for them. As long as everybody is happy...

Besides, the good thing is that she doesn't really mind if I buy myself a few watches as long as I don't ruin myself...and as long as I don't decide to trade them for tarantulas...

Didn't mean it to sound like I was generalizing but none of my friends wifes or girlfriends understand why I like a nice watch, yet all my friends understand why I like a nice watch.

Had a gal at an AD put it well "A Rolex to a man is like a diamond ring to a woman". Most men don't get that excited over a diamond ring, just like most women don't get that excited over a watch. Many women would rather have a handful of "costume jewelry" watches to match to outfits that one or two really nice watches.

This obviously doesn't apply to ALL women, but it does to a lot.

Yup... mine as well. Buy your wife a Rolex and she will "get it" too. Albeit in a different way than us watch nuts do. Mine didn't really understand until she had one.

IMHO , a fine watch is no different than any other consumer good. Once you experience a better product it is hard to go back to the old. That holds true with cars, clothes, furniture, jewelry, etc, etc, etc....

My wife doesn't mind me buying them at all. She knows it makes me happy which makes her happy. As long as other responsibilities are taken care of and it is affordable, she never says anything but good looking watch

Because women have always had plenty of jewelry and accessories - a watch was never a top priority. For men, a watch is our only truly customizable, noticeable jewelry/accessory.

If they don't get, they don't get. What I love, my wife does not have to love and vice versa. I do not need to justify to women what color my clothes are or what watch I wear.
In short, who cares if women get it or not .... your dedication to the item should be as strong as ever and unshakable ....

My wife wears a TT diamond MOP Wittnauer for dress and TAG for casual. She appreciates a nice watch on a man as much as I appreciate a well dressed woman. I think far more women get the concept than you would think, because they do so appreciate the right shoes, a perfect black cocktail dress and fine jewelry the same way we appreciate fine wristwatches.

My wife has never specifically asked for a Rolex. I am sure she would love wearing one. She certainly does like when I wear mine. She did request the TAG for her every day beater.

Me with my Rolex, her with her TAG, week before last at the Chandon Winery in NAPA.

Very, very true. My wife is in her third consecutive BMW, has five closets of some of the best designers, a two story shoe rack with over 150 pairs of shoes, has spent four years decorating our home with unique items from all over the world, and has every single kitchen appliance and feature that a gourmet chef could dream of.

She can walk into a store blindfolded and pick out the highest quality item without seeing it.

Her next watch will probably be a Rolex, or a Patek.

She gets it.

My wife has a Rolex and doesn't understand why I spend so much on watches. She can get the Rolex thing but when I got my AP in the summer she really didn't get why a SS watch lists for $35k. I'm putting my watch buying on the back burner for a while though.

My wife has a Omega Deville, Baume Mercier Hampton and Cartier Francaise....she does not care for Rolex that much and likes"tank" style watches.
She also will take a Diamond anything over a watch.....she does not get my Rolex and Omega thing and I dont get her diamond fascination....but we get along
