Watchmakers at their very best - True Craftsmen!
Just stumbled across this forum and thought I would post a pic of my Dad who, like his forefathers, worked as a watchmaker all his life. Sadly he passed away in the early 80’s, but I have fond memories of the occasional Christmas treat of visiting him at work in the Watches Of Switzerland Bond St (London) showroom.
… Did I carry on the family tradition; no, I work in IT. Do I wear a Rolex; yes I most definitely do! Happy New Year Everyone!! Dave |

Great pic, thanks for sharing.
Bought my DJ from WoS on bond street. Nice store. And they kindly send me their calibre magazine twice a year. Really nice and glossy. I think UKers can get it for free if they fill this in. http://www.watches-of-switzerland.co.uk/calibre |

I LOVE THAT PICTURE. I wish my Dad was a watchmaker and passed it on to me. You can still learn it as a hobby and stay in IT. I'm a professor and I want to learn the craft. Have been tinkering and learning on my own.

Thanks for the comments and kind words!.
In response to a couple of questions…… 1. Hi TimeToGo, I have an Oysterdate which was given to me by my Mum on my 18th birthday – what a prezzy EH!! It hasn’t missed a beat in 28 years of non-stop use and the only time it leaves my wrist is when it’s serviced. 2. Hi Linda, regrettably I do not have a the family ‘steady hand’, nor the patience to attempt such repairs, I did however manage to fix a mainspring explosion on my Grandfather clock a few years back. The success of what a can only describe as Ray Charles brain surgery was extremely satisfying, although I owe the whole thing to a bottle of Rioja, neanderthal tools and bruit force! I’m sure old Dad would have been proud..? |

nice pic.....thanks for sharing. The time when sons followed their father's craft have long gone for the most part. Sometimes I think my father forgot more than I will ever learn.
