Domes on modern subs

Hi all, I have my heart set on a sub 5513 but like many am having a hard time finding a mint condition piece. Therefore could one recreate the vintage look by replacing the crystal on a 14060M for instance, with a dome or super dome?
Just wondering...

Not without some difficulty and possible detriment to the water resistance. They are affixed differently. You could I suppose have a custom dome of sapphire or plexi made

You can have anything made but it won't be serviceable by Rolex and water resistance could be in question. Keep looking for the 5513. I'd hate to see a perfect 14060 get butchered.

Don't you mean "hard time finding a mint condition piece" that you can afford?

Several cross the Classifieds here each year and are all over the internet by trusted sellers.

On the franken-14060 - IMHO, a piece of plastic is not the way to get there...

I agree, I see 5513's all the time but not ones that I can afford.
There is no way I would try to make a 5513 out of a 14060. It is a Franken watch and it will always be that.
Good luck with your hunt.

Thanks all - I know the differences don't end with the plastic so I'll keep looking. Many 5513s are listed as mint but few are upon close inspection. Anyway great forum and you've all got great taste! Cheers

The 5513 was made from '62-'90. Twenty-eight years of production and 23 years since the last one came off the line. Bnib is gonna be tough. Find the best example you can afford but realize it is a 25yo used watch at best.
