14060 vs 114060 which do you prefer

I bought a 14060 last Christmas, and was thinking of dumping the old one and picking up the new 114060. Not sure if I would like to own both, but what are your thoughts.

Personally, I prefer the 14060, but that's pretty much just because of the smaller lugs and aluminum bezel. I prefer the new maxi dial and bracelet over the old.

That being said, if I were in your boat, I still wouldn't sell the 14060 for the 114060. The differences are there, but personally, not enough for me to want to make the switch.

I had the new one, just didn't dig the maxi case and the blingy/shiny ceramic bezel. It could have been a perfect update but Rolex blew it IMO...

I like them both. if I had to pick just one, though, the 114060 all day and every day. The updates elevate it, even if the design changes aren't everyone's cuppa.

This picture is exactly why I LOVE the SD. The lack of cyclops, at a quick glance, makes the watch look like a 14060...which I really like over the Sub-Date. At a closer look, you then realize that is no 14060, but a unique watch in the Submariner series.

The "upgrades" aren't really improvements, in my opinion. And the cost difference isn't worth the design changes.

Plus I just don't like the looks or the ceramic bezel. Or the bracelet. Or the lack of lug holes.

I DO like the maxi-dial and hands though. But that's it.

I do like the little more bulky appearance of the 114060 but 14060M for me.... I just bought a Z-series 4 liner 14060m and am very happy with it. The non-ceramic 14060ms will be the one going up in prices slowly. No to mention the tremendous price difference in a 14060m and 114060 ---

I'm in the same dilemma right now. I'm only considering the 114060 because of it's larger appearance on the wrist (I have a big wrist). However, everybody around me even the sales lady at the AD thought I'm nuts. Here is a pic to show my point.

There is a big difference between the way the older models wear versus the new IMO. The new are more substantial/heavier/more wrist presence - however you want to define it. I just went through the same decision and ended up going with the 114060 even though I wasn't completely sold on the aesthetics of the case, because I felt the bracelet and dial made up for any possible deficiencies. After a week or two, I really bonded with the new case and now I wouldn't want to go back. It's personal tasted, of course, but I feel the updates are worth it.

My randomly numbered 14060M has exactly the same movement as the 114060.

Granted the new clasp has advantages, but at a cost of about $1200.

Personally, I don't think that there's anything at all wrong with the old clasp and I wear my watch loose enough to accommodate periodic swelling of the wrist.

I also prefer the lines of the 14060, but I must admit that the 114060 is a beautiful and excellent watch.

I just don't believe that it is necessarily superior to the 14060.

I have both models and love, love them both to pieces. So what's my overall impression when I switch out from wearing one to the other?

The 114060 wears much more like a Pop Art, muscled up version of its 60 year old brother. It's more about the watch head, less about the bracelet. When you see it, - BAM, one instantly recognizes that Maxi Dial straight away! Sort of like a 70's of pumped up design, the large white markers call out. Reminds me of my Seiko diver in a weird way? It's a much heavier watch that sits higher, and is tank like. I love the ceramic, it goes with the whole sleekness of the watches high polish lacquer look, the dial etc.
The whole design, upgrades and history come together magnificently in this watch, and is a stunner. This is not your grandfathers Rolex! But is yet, still so simple, robust, well designed and classic, that you will one day, no doubt, be the old man, or woman handing it down to your eagerly awaiting children.

The 14060M, is simple, sublime, classic perfection. This watch is one of the beautiful flowers at the end of the Submariner's many branches over its long history.
You tend to appreciate the bracelet aesthetics more, as the bracelet is "seen" more in my opinion. Sits lower, tends not to bang into as much, and is probably slightly more comfortable despite its older style bracelet, due to the lightness and lower center of gravity, doesn't swing on the wrist as much.
Funny, but when I picked up this watch after wearing my 114060 for 4 months I thought I had made a terrible mistake, I thought "No this cant really be a Rolex watch" - the whole feel of the bracelet and the texture on the bezel, it honestly felt like a POS, for about 5 seconds. Then I snapped out of it. But it's funny how in only comparing them by going from wearing one watch to another do you pick up on what would totally escape you otherwise.
