In a Bar question....
An old friend comes in and I notice the band on his watch. I ask him what it is (getting excited about what I saw from about 10 feet) and he say's a Rolex. Nice I say and I pull up my coat and show him my Sub. Ask him ro take it of to snap an iphone pic for on here since he got it 20 years ago. My question is "Did they make knock off's 20 years ago?" I really think he thinks it's real, I'm thinking no way......

Doesn't strike me as real. Seems like most Rolex watches from that time period have aged far more gracefully. It would be interesting if it was a rare older model, but I doubt that's the case.

They have been making counterfeits a lot longer than that, including that $5 piece of junk in the pic.

Totally fake. You don't even need to be a WIS to spot something wrong with that watch.
For a start, 4000ft does NOT equal 500m. (4,000 ft = 1,219.2 m) |

I don't recall Subs even being rated to either 4,000 ft. or 500m. And yes, the math is wrong.
Don't recall seeing a pepsi or coke bezel on a Sub. Also don't remember a Champagne dial except the Serti. The Jubilee seems out of place. The cyclops is WAY off center. The boundaries around the 5 minute indices are very uneven (like at 2, 5 & 7) unless the pic is distorting it.

I'm not sure how anyone can walk around and think that's a real Rolex.

Champagne submariner dial with a worn out GMT Pepsi bezel? This one is all wrong in my opinion. Best to not say anything.

Wow. Impressive that it lasted 20 years. They sure made better fakes back then.

TRF servers don't have enough storage to list everything wrong with that watch.
I can't believe anyone would think it's real, but I have seen some fakes on people's wrists that were almost as bad.

I'm looking hard to see if I can find one thing that may, possibly convince someone that it isn't fake. That is bad.
