Fragrances

I saw another thread on cologne/perfume, and I was a bit surprised at some of the things that people say they wear. Lots of what would be the equivalent of Casio and Timex (considered Designer fragrances). For example, I saw that someone mentioned Cool Water. That's like wearing Invicta's watch that looks like the Submariner (I have the Invicta on order, by the way, to see if I like the style. See my thread in the main forum). Cool Water is a blatent copy of Creed's Green Irish Tweed, and like a cheap copy of a Rolex, comes nowhere near the quality of the real thing.

Most would consider Creed to be the Rolex of fragrances (producing what are considered Niche fragrances). They're one of the oldest companies in the world, they were founded in 1760.

My favorite fragrance is their Erolfa. It's basically the Yachtmaster of their line. It smells like the ocean, with some citrus notes. Apparently it's fairly difficult to copy because there isn't really anything close on the market.

They have their main store in Paris, and from what I've heard, if you go to the exclusive up-stairs part of the store (no idea how to qualify for that privilege), you have to take off your shoes because it's carpeted with mink fur.

So, does anyone else have any suggestions on how to smell good?

Besides bathing? No.

Just because something is expensive though, doesn't mean it will be good. Fragrances on people are different than what is from the container. There's a dialog in the book "Stranger in a strange land" that I'll see if I can dig up. Covers this topic well.

YES!! Step out of your AD's with a brand new Rolex strapped around your wrist.....and the new smell of a freshly opened up Rolex box and the great perfume nestled between the cleavage of your AD.

At that point, you'd probably also smell like the steak you have pasted over your swollen left eye.

Classic British men's cologne:

Blenhiem Bouquet, Penhaligon's. Actually most Penhaligon's fragrances are outstanding. Penhaligon's tends towards perfume making as it was in the turn of the century, minus the whale products. Instead of smelling like every other can of drugstore aerosol deoderant, Penhaligon's crafts its scents in a traditional manner, so many of the results are built from natural products, not chemically derived. And you'll notice the difference from many modern, deriviative products.

Molton Brown (also British) do great fragrances.

The same cologne will smell differently on other people. I'm not too into fragrances...as long as you have your basic morning/afternoon along with an evening one, you can't go wrong.

I'm not very particular about cologne. I do believe that a man should not be smelled from a distance and for me that proximity is reserved for my wife.
Women's perfume should be barely worn in order that people nearby only get the slightest wisp of fragrance in the air as a woman passes and then disappear. Heavy perfumes that linger in the air should be reserved for outdoor events like Nascar or pig wrestling and such.

Skin Bracer by Mennen! The original formula. It stings when applied to a freshly shaved head. It feels good after the shock. I also like Old Spice and Ivory soap.

Some might laugh at Old Spice but it is a classic that will never go out of style in my opinion.

You are absolutely right! Truly I like Old Spice. No Joke. I also like the smell of Barbasol.

Almost all the time the only fagrance I have on is Ivory soap and Skin Bracer/or Old Spice (all depends on what I want to get at Wal-Mart after I run out of aftershave). Those smells are results of everyday grooming.

There is something very old fashioned or classic about Pinaud Clubman products - such as their talcum powder. It smells like an old style barber shop.

I piled on Stetson back on high school 20 years ago. Had to smell good back then. For the girls, you know.
