Funny Opinion of Rolex

It's about average I guess; it's from a guy on a stock market forum I visit:

Wow markets must be treating you well.

I assume you have a net worth well over a million dollars. Otherwise you would be crazy to consider spending that kind of money on a watch imo.

If you really desire looking like a "baller" or whatever you do realize you can get a near perfect rolex knockoff for 300-500$...

Have fun..I allways liked watches but would never consider spending thousands on one unless perhaps i had many millions and even then. Its just asking for jelousy and robbery getting something too flashy imo.

Actually, the post was made towards someone wanting an Omega but mentioned a possible Rolex purchase.

I understand. I get tired of the "holier than thou" attitude. It seems that the old addage "if you can't be nice, be quiet". doesn't apply when folks disagree with how you spend your money.
I work with a whole office full of them and it bugs me.

Its typical really, lots of guys I know think nothing of paying tens of £1000 on a a depreciating asset such as a car but baulk at the thought of buying a DJ.

Come to think of it, I know people that happily spend /waste the price of a DJ on cigarettes every year but think I'm crazy for having a beautiful Rolex or 2, it beggars belief

If you add it all up I know people that waste enough money to buy a nice watch in cash every year.

Stock broker market experts - ppfftt - there are alot of wealthy people on paper, but that can disappear on a whim.

Everyone and their priorities are different.
I enjoy all types of mechanical things, so watches fit right in.

A guy I know just spent £1500 GBP on one ticket to go to Vegas to see the Hatton V Mayweather fight this weekend and that is without expenses while there. Either way the fight/event will be over in a max of say 3 hours and for another couple of hundred he could have bought a Sub and enjoyed it for the rest of his life.

4 years on and still no smoking, but no Daytona either

I know that there are many businessmen and professionals that have a dozen (or more) 500 to 1000+ dollar suits in the closet. They think nothing of dropping 200-500 on a pair of shoes.. and these things wear out or go out of style in a a few years...

Yet, they can't seem to grasp the idea that a few thousand on a Rolex will last them the rest of their lives if they want it to.

What kills me is the little turds who will throw all kinds of aftermarket parts on a Honda Civic and then when it's time to sell it, they can't get squat for it. I had one ask about my watch and basically said I was stupid to put that much money into a watch (though he didn't know the cost, just the name). I wanted to say something about his spendings that give no return value, but didn't.

People just don't understand!

I am by no means a "wealthy" person. But I have sacrificed over the years that when I did decide to pull the trigger on a Rolex (Asked the wife first) I paid cash. Now my wife on the other hand doesn’t like jewelry, she’s into more of the home décor thing. When I told my friends at work that I just bought a Rolex, some said welcome to the club and the others said the basic line of too much for a watch that tells time. As stated before, to each his own.

We can’t help that Rolex owners are drawn to the craftsmanship, mystique etc.

It is not worth your time(no pun intended) to argue with these type of people. Often times people assume what type of person you are before even getting to know you. Unfortunately when we wear our Rolex watches outside people will assume you are a rich snob or spoiled kid.

When a person makes a negative comment on your rolex watch, it is only because they are jealous.

Different people have different goals and things that they want to spend money on. It can be watches, cars, guns, boats, coin collections, etc. I may not want to spend my money on those things, but I shouldn't look down on others or criticize them for what they spend their money on.

It doesn't matter if it is aftermarket car parts for a beat down civic, or whatever. To each his own.

I have one Rolex watch and my next Rolex purchase will likely be for my wife because I like for her to have nice things as well. I am more than likely a one Rolex kind of guy. Of course, if Rolex changes up the Submariner, I might would like to have one of those to add to the Submariner that I currently own. I am not rich, but I do make decent money and buy what I like and what I want. No one can tell me what I should or shouldn't buy, so I will spend or save my money as I see fit.

I've found over the years that 9 out of 10 people don't even know what a Rolex looks like and the 1 in 10 that ask me anything about it, ask if its real.
On the other hand in a group of more high income type of folks, they have the polish(read class) not to even bring up the topic unless they own one and want to compare watches

my father owned one of his Rolex's since 1978 to the day he died in march 11, 2003

meaning that rolex probably cost him about 18 cents a day to wear for that long...

when you think what you spend that on daily? sure as hell sounds like it was worth it for my old man to keep a Rolly on his wrist... IMHO
