This Rolex costs how much? :patriot:

Was doing some internet browsing on my beloved Sub and came across this AWESOME service member Ad. Not sure when it was published, however, if I saw it and its reflected price of $210 dollars, I would've likely gotten 2. WOW

The ad would have been late '60's before the Date version began in 67-68 methinks

I can safely assume that's when Rolex were sold in PX's CONUS and OCONUS. Like MJ said, a time machine, five grand, and a safe, I'd be sitting pretty like Mike Wood.

Count me in for that trip backward in the time machine!! At that time in my life however, $210 for a watch was way more than I could afford, or be allowed by my wife to spend even if I could. Quite honestly, I don't remember if they had Rolexes in the exchange because I still wasn't even aware of the brand in the late 60's. That didn't happen until the early 70's when I saw a YG President in a shop window....price was $1300. The lust began but the money was still years away.

In the '70's most sports divers would have spent that kind of money on gear - the divers watches were much cheaper. A Sub was a big chunk of change so most of us in SoFla bought the cheaper models and put them on rubber straps.

I'm not even sure if my first Submariner, mid 70's was a 5512 or 5513, but I vagely remember it costing around $1000. (Canadian) out the door.

Does'nt sound like much today but it was a lot back then. All my friends and family at the time thought I'd lost my mind. lol.

Appreciate the fact that this is TRF, but if you really had a time machine you'd be much better off having bought shares of Berkshire Hathaway.

If I remember correctly there was a thread a while back that said sub prices grew at a rate of 7% per year for the last 30 years. Much higher than inflation.

How about when the Milsub's where sold at auction ! I believe they where sold for £250 - £500 each by MOD. Though don't quote me . I could be wrong but I read that somewhere .
Imagine grabbing 10 back then and tossing them in a safe for years!
If we only knew !!

But if we had time machines after buying our "grail" most of us would have to talk to our younger self and totally avoid certain women/marriages .... That lead to Divorce- misery , pain, & major financial loss ! (Wouldn't have minded to grab a bunch of gold when it was -$300 usd an ounce either )!

I'm 18 and I remember when gold was below $300 oz spot. I kept telling my dad to buy buy buy until it hit a grand. but he didn't listen =(

and back in 66 you could get roughly 5 ozs of gold for $210. so subs would've been a good investment, daytonas would've. (DJ's, AK's , cellinis and presidents, pretty poor investments xD)

Well look at watches like say the 6263 Daytona back in the 1980s they were around £850 and Rolex could not give them away. They were then very very poor sellers how times have changed. But would doubt if any modern day Rolex produced since 1988 onward will command those vintage watch prices we have today.
