Prospective AP Owner
I recently posted another thread asking about the Royal Oak vs a Sub C for daily wear. I'm getting closer to going for a RO, but I wanted to see if anyone had feedback about…wait for it….AP resale value.
I'm buying to keep it… so it's not a #1 priority, but I would like to know that if I HAVE to sell for one reason or another that I won't take a complete bath. Would a mint AP RO 15400, gotten from a trusted dealer at a decent discount from MSRP, be difficult to sell off if I needed to? Of course I'd lose something… but what is the market like for preowned AP? Nothing is like SS Rolex, or Patek, but what about a Royal Oak. I've done some search on the bay and on the forums, but it's hard for me to tell how many sell. It's really just a piece of mind thing. Anyone have an idea? |

It won't hold as well as a Sub, but if you buy well, you won't take a large loss either. Condition when you buy vs when you sell would of course be a factor.

If you buy under the right circumstances as you stated, you should be able to get most of what you paid, maybe losing a little.
Pay full retail and you will take a bath. But this shouldn't be an issue because you're gonna keep it. |

I bought my 15300 from an AD at a great discount two years ago. If I sold it used today, I'd be in the black. Same goes for all my watches. It's all about the discount.

I bought a 2003 AP moonphase for a little over $6600 a few months back, My real grail was the AP 26300 Panda but had the itch to get a AP so I "settled". I am close to having 5K saved for my next watch and was going to pull the trigger on a Explorer 2 40MM but held off to get my grail the panda 26300. I just saw 2 in the FS section for under 14K so I HOPE I can sell the AP for at least what i paid in a few months to acquire my GRAIL...
