Why "all" want big watches???

Hi!

Maybe I am a conservative guy.... to be >30years....

Why do "all" teenagers wear ~45mm big bling bling watches now? Now, spec. girls?

I think the Rolex models define a very good standard. 32mm for ladies, 34mm "Boy", 36mm for men daily and 40mm for men for sport/casual.

I think (my op.) people wear a big watch (>43mm) just to "show"...Or is it? What is the point of super large watches? Hmmm

I wear Rolex and JeagerLeC daily - I never show my watch to everyone... It is under my shirt all the time. Fat watch prevents you to have it under your shirt.... My girl friend says she will never wear a large men watch.

I don't want a big watch anymore. I had a few 44mm Panerai through out the years and I got tired of the large size on my relatively thin 6 3/4" wrists. I am happy with ~40mm max.

Me too. Finally, one agrees with me. I think 40mm is a nice and comfortable size...

Yes, I mean Rolex. 40mm is perfect. I havn't tried the YM II...but I will def. not buy it. A sport Rolex bigger than 40mm is too heavy compared to its bracelet. And 40mm Rolex case is the classic design. I hope Rolex does not make bigger than the sub and GMT IIc.

Actually, the part of the world where big watches are really being sold, and the majority of mechanical watches are being sold, is a part of the world where on average the body size and other parts are smaller than in America. The 444 crowd (as Thai's refer to a rival group from Asia).

Most of the guys I see wearing big blingy watches are very young 20's. Rappers, Professional athletes, etc. They also might have pants half hanging off there arse! No disrespect to Paneri owners! I,m quite content with 40mm!

Even though the watches are all going huge and in some cases you have no choice in size for a particular model, I think it should depend on what looks best for your wrist size. A 300lb man with 10" wrist might look better with a 44-48 mm watch on than a 34mm.

I still believe that the huge craze will fade down the line. I am not talking about sport watches that run to 42mm, I think the fad of the 44 to 50 mm will go out of style as the "bling/hip hop" thing fades. Just my 2c

I hate those fat bling bling things people are wearing and SHOWING around in the street... I hope those "things" and this trend became "ugh"... and I hope people go back to the more elegance watch style as before. No more big, bling and orange watches on the men AND lady watches.

I finally find someone (really hard to find people at my age these days - beside my girl friend and my family) that understands that waches are not for showing on the street and "the bigger the better, the more bling the better". I miss perfect style!

Even within Rolex, the new models have larger bezels. Take the new GMT IIc, it definitely looks bigger than the other 40 mm models. This will probaby carry over to the other models when they get updated. I think it is the trend nowadays, prob. started by rap stars and celebs..

I think the big watch craze is partly due to a reaction with the electric high tech world, where smaller is better. To have a big analog watch, with an automatic movement kind of brings some comfort to all of the sterile high tech gadgets. Learning how to tell time is a universal form of communication, that we all learn as kids. usually on an analog clock. The big watches we are seeing, brings us back to this experience .

Guys - why so serious? The reason watches have gotten so much bigger IMO is because men began to discover that a watch does not have to be just a thing on your wrist to tell time. They can be fun!!!

Guys have way fewer options than women as far as dress and appearance. An interesting watch can be a personal accent that says something about us.

Wearing a big blingy watch does not always mean the guy is an a-hole trying to show off. Maybe he just enjoys wearing it, looking at it and enjoying it. Just look at this board. A bunch of really great guys having fun with shared interest in a hobby.

I like 36 mm, 40 mm, and 44 mm, and wear them all at different times. For me, this is where the fun is, and no hard and fast rules apply. Cheers, Larry.

Great! My YM midsize is 35 mm...so, that makes me a "boyz-to-men" group! My wrist size is 6-6.25...there is no way a 40mm watch is gonna look right. Even my Omega deville at 37.5 mm look kinda on the edge of big.

Hopefully, for my sake, the trend will go backwards to girly watches!

AT LAST, SOMEONE MAKES SOME SENSE

I am 61 Y.O. and have, and also wear on a regular basis, watches from 36mm (Vintage Rolex) to 50mm (Bell and Ross Br01-97) with a few in between.

IMHO, big watches look better...at least on me. Most of my watches are in the 40-42mm range. I do have a couple of larger watches (Glycine KMU 48 and Citizen Ecozilla) that I wear as "beater" watches. The Ecozilla is bigger, but the Glycine looks bigger because it is all dial (no bezel).
I'd love to have a Datejust, but I just can't get over the 36mm case size. My wrist is between 7 3/4" and 8" and the DJ looks like a ladies watch on my wrist (IMO). I figured instead of the DJ, I'd pick up the Aqua Terra (42mm) sometime down the line.
Of course, I'm currently saving for a PAM 177 or 88, so take my input with a grain of salt...
