So I was looking to replace my old IWC Mark XVII

and I found this beautiful Muhle Glashutte.



I found that I missed the comfort and the simplicity of my old Mark XVII and really considered buying another. As always, I love to do research and go on the hunt for my next purchase. Along the way I discovered Muhle Glashutte and found myself really impressed with the brand and what they have to offer. Being a small family brand really perked my interest, there is just not that many brands that are still run by someone with the same last name as that on the dial. The more I learned about the brand, the more I was impressed.

Take a look at the finishing of the movement.





Muhle Glashutte uses a beautiful rotor and if you look closely, you can see their patented woodpecker neck regulator. Everything I have read about their in house regulator seems like a really great improvement over regulators used by many high end brands. You can also see the blued screws, which IMHO looks amazing. Blueing of the screws not only adds so much to the attractiveness of the movement, but is functional as it provides additional corrosion protection.

I am pretty happy with this purchase as you can see. I just saved myself many thousands of dollars by going with the MG over another Mark XVII and I am 99.9% sure I like the watch more. It has also shown to be a bit more accurate, running darn near spot on.

It is also nice to see brands that add a little extra something to the deal. Here is a pic of the box, pretty sweet compared to many others I have received over the years.




Overall the comfort is amazing and at only 10.4mm thick, it wear very well. The weight is just right and the buffalo strap flat out rocks. I usually never wear OEM straps but this one will get worn until it smells like a real buffalo, then I will buy another for hundreds less than buying a OEM IWC or Panerai strap.

The simplicity of this watch is what really gets me and makes me smile. It is so easy to read and when I wake up at 5 in the morning and look at this watch, I can tell what time it is really easily. It is not Omega or Panerai lume, but it does the job just enough to be read all night long.

Another thing I love is the touch of red on the dial and at the tip of the second hand. Little stuff like this seem to add so much to the overall appearance of the watch, I love it.

Very nice review & that is one nice looking watch!!

You have piqued my interest... I too am a big fan of the simplicity of the IWC "Mark" line up. Now I will be doing more research about your new timepiece.
