Can you change factory dial through Rolex?
Hey I was just wondering if you can have a factory dial changed from Rolex so as not to make it "aftermarket"? I have an '07 18/TT Yachtmaster black MOP and wondered if at some point I could have diamonds, sapphires added to the dial?

My understanding is that if it was available that way from Rolex, that it can be changed by them. Otherwise no.

You are right. As long as it is original Rolex, they will do it.

Well, I don't think you could make Rolex add diamonds to say a DJ dial if the dial did not have diamonds on it originally.

My AD in the states says you can't make any changes...even he can't have his dial swapped out for the one he wants. Granted, he has a Sub, so I don't know what he would want to replace it with...Her said they are sold "as is". Maybe I misunderstood.

my mum changed the dial on her DJ at the RSC in Singapore before.
but i believe that you cannot design and personalise the dial. you can only change the dial to one that is produced by Rolex |

My two cents...and it's worth just that.
Rolex USA WILL change/swap a dial on a Rolex, provided, the requested dial was available on the original watch. What this means is that if you have for example, a Datejust from a time when only 'stick' style dials were available, then Rolex will let you change to another 'stick' dial of available color. If your watch came originally with for example, Arab numbers, then Rolex will allow a dial swap for another Arab dial. But, you cannot go from stick to Arab because the watch originally did not come with what Rolex considers to be an enhanced dial choice. So, if you're reading & looking at the current dial pictures, and fall in love with a new style Datejust Roman Dial and wish to put it on your 10 year old stick dial, Rolex USA will not offer the swap. Additionally, you won't be able to get Rolex USA to put a Blue Sub dial on a SS version, or order a Serti Sub for a SS either. I don't know the current situation outside the USA, but I have experience from 10 years ago of purchasing extra dials in Hong Kong and Switzerland without any need for a swap/trade and without any hassle about my color choices. However, back then, the only flavor was 'stick' for my model, so the option for Arab or another fancy choice was nonexistant. |

I'm afraid OysterDavid's resply wasn't completely correct, so let me clarify this situation with Rolex exchanging dials (in the USA):
- RUSA does NOT change the dials on ANY of the professional models; meaning: Seadweller, Submariner, Yachtmaster, Daytona, GMT Masters, Explorer I & II, and Turn-O-Graph. (so they won't add diamonds either) - RUSA only exchanges dials to a PLAIN STICK dial in white, silver, black, blue and champagne colors. (even if you come from roman numerals) - Mother-of-Pearl, Meteorite, Sodolite, and all the other "stone-dials" can only be purchased when you originally buy the watch like that, they are not available to be put on later. - Diamond dials are available ONLY in the plain colors, as mentioned above. (some exceptions may apply in color availability) - Every diamond dial exchange can ONLY be done by RSC. - An AD watchmaker can only exchange dials with the stick dials. - Rolex will not exchange a dial when the watch is still under it's 2 year warranty period. (but then again, you don't have to tell them that...) Hope this makes it clear! Vanessa |
