Finding the Right One

Have you ever had your heart set on a particular vintage model and just never found the right one? Maybe I'm being too picky and should over look some of the corrosion, lume flaking, dial damage and hand replacements I'm seeing in some of these examples. Every time I see something new pop up in the market I find myself debating the trade-offs. Should I or shouldn't I pull the trigger?! This is supposed to be the fun of the chase, but it sure can be frustrating. Am I the only one who feels this?

It's hard to be patient, but it will pay off for you.

Its a typical problem for rare vintage; the rarer the watch, the more extensive the search usually is. But then again, you never know when it might pop up! Hang in there!

There are definitely watches that I've been hunting for many years. That's the aspect of this hobby I enjoy the most. One watch in particular (not a Rolex) is so rare that I haven't seen one for sale for over two years - that one sold in an hour... I'll get them all eventually, and the experience will be much more satisfying than driving to an AD with a wad of cash.

In your particular case, have you contacted any of the better professional sellers? It might be worth it to ask them to take a look with their contacts.

Quite normal - I don't have the patience to look for a year I just spent about 2 months looking hard for a day date. I reached out to a few trusted sellers and told them exactly what I was looking for. Of course I constantly scanned the forums for new posts. Forming a relationship with a seller like Andrew Shear - who has a huge network and sees so many watches - has always worked for me.
