Tell me about Frankfurt
May be going in mid-March for a meeting for a week.
Is it worth coming in early or staying after for a few days? I've only been to Europe once (weeklong bus tour hitting Budapest, Vienna, and Prague), so I'm not an experienced European traveler. Maybe another city nearby that would be good to visit? P.S. I know it's safe to wear my Rolex there! |

Close is Wiesbaden. Not to be missed.
Frankfurt isn't the nicest of German cities IMHO.

It's a pretty multi-ethnic city. Depends on your interest. Roemer is a nice place to look around. |

I flew into there in the mid 90s and the airport was amazing - so well organized (not a shocker for Germany, though). Certainly coming from Boston, anything is well organized.
I thought it was a fun city to walk around - take a train out to the countryside though, that is beautiful.

If you want a nice little town to visit, you should look into Ettlingen, which is about 60-90 minutes south (depending on traffic). It is a nice little quaint town with a city center filled with shops and restaurants along the Alb river. You can also take the train from Frankfurt to Ettlingen if you are not driving or taking a taxi.
if you go stay at the Erbprinz hotel. Very nice indoor pool, good food in their restaurant and cigar lounge. Also, there is a nice micro brewery right next to the hotel. If you are driving, you can spend another 60 minutes to head to Stuttgart, which also has some things to see such as Porsche museum. Enjoy your trip. |

Been to Frankfurt many times but never more than 8 hours. Rent a car and drive around (especially in the autobahn). Have a safe trip! |

Catch a train down to one of the cities I grew up in...wuerzburg. It's on the "romance road". Follow it down to Rothenburg ob der Tauber and further down to Augsberg. When I was a kid, I used to go up to the castle in Wuerzburg and sit on the walls and drink a few beers....remarkable view.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Würzburg Rothenburg is one of the few walled cities left after WWII. As I recall the stories, the Germans requested the allies not destroy the city. The Germans marched out one cate as the allies marched in another. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rothenburg_ob_der_Tauber Augsberg...where hubby and I spent many hours laughing and loving. We were young then...he was 20 and I was 18. We met in Munich when I was 17 and he was 19. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augsburg

Restaurant Sevres im Hotel Hessischer Hof
It's worth he three hours to Munich. Hopefully there isn't too much "meeting" and more down time. |

How about weekend trip to Strasbourg - great city with lots of sights. On the way down you can stop in Heidelberg and/or Baden-Baden. Frankfurt is ok, but I prefer the charm of Heidelberg or Strasbourg.
I go down there about 5 times a year. Great area to visit. Have fun. |

German beer is great anywhere!
I suggest renting a car, River Rhein has some spectacular views.

From Wiesbaden it's not a long way to Rüdesheim, a lovely little city by the river Rhein.
