Hello everyone,

I'm gathering my courage to try to get closer to a perfect watch for me, and that would mean taking the cyclops out of my Sub C. From what I have researched, one of the best ways to do this is to replace the original crystal with a new one, also from Rolex, but without the cyclops. This way I would get to keep the old one, in case I ever needed to restore the originality of the watch (unlikely!).

I'm assumig this swap would involve a crystal made for the 114060? Are the crystals for the different Subs (date and ND) identical apart from the cyclops?

Does anyone have any idea how much this crystal replacement would cost?

Thanks, Mike. I really thought the Ceramic ND and Date subs used the same case, but wanted to confirm. Any thought on the price for a new ND crystal?

The Cyclops is only stuck on it can be removed.

True but the AR coating is very evident when a cyclops is just removed.

Exactly, this would not be the best solution, as the removal of the cyclops leaves its traces in the crystal...

Cases are diff sizes but I imagine the dials and crystals are the same size.

The SubC ND and SubC date have different cases?

On the pre ceramic models, yes, case/dial/crystal sizes are different!!

Newer ceramic models are identical in all aspects of size......only difference being the date/movement (crystal sans cyclops)!!

the cyclops is an acquired taste. for years i use to swear up and down that i would never own a rolex because i thought the cyclops was so ugly. I now stand corrected

I like the look of it without the cyclops. I've changed out the crystal on 1680s for the same affect. If only there was a domed, non-cyclop crystal option...

This was a hot topic when they came out and I remember someone finally got hold of someone at Rolex who confirmed the case was a tiny bit different on the two ceramic models.

Having seen pics of both measured with a micrometer, there is no discernible difference I'm aware of....

Well, I understand that the cyclops is instantly associated with Rolex, but when I chose the Sub I was after a watch that, at the same time, was extremely well built/reliable and was close to what I thought was the most aesthetically pleasing design. I ended up choosing between the PO 2500, Sub and DSSD, and went with the Sub. It didn't matter to me if the watch said Rolex, Omega or whatever else on the dial, but I wanted the one I liked the most among the watches with the technical specs I was after.

To make the Sub perfect for me, I would like it without the cyclops and at 42mm. Since the later is impossible, I'm trying to get as close as possible to my ideal watch.
