My sister has a 5 year old Oyster which my Mum gave her.

I saw her the other day and noticed her crown was not screwed in properly - so told her she needs to be careful with it and that if water gets in it will cost a small fortune to repair.

I also changed the time for her as it was a bit fast and she normally gets my Dad to do it.

Once I changed it I thought I would give it a wind...the crown would not rotate clockwise at all. I made sure it was in the winding position and tried giving it a little wiggle but no matter what I did it would not wind.

Will it physically not let you if it is already fully wound? Or does it sound like their might be a problem?

It is the first time I have touched the watch and have only ever used a Submariner before.

That doesn't sound right at all. Rolex automatic movements use a slipping clutch mechanism, so you can essentially keep winding the mainspring when it is fully charged without doing any damage. If the crown has been left unscrewed often, there could be something more serious. If it's 5 years old, it is due a service anyway, get it sent off to the RSC at Kings Hill, and they'll have it back looking and performing like brand new again

Definitely time for a service, or at least a look at by a watchmaker.
