Trade in Sea Dweller for SS Daytona?
So my 1999 Sea Dweller was making a loud whirring sound on the rotor last week. This is my only Rolex and I have had it since new. I brought it into the AD and it needs a full service (it's been about 6 years). The estimate was about $725 for service/parts. He also mentions that I can trade it in on a new $12K SS Daytona for $4500 credit, and pay the difference of $7500. He is getting a white and black dial SS Daytona in about six weeks and I can have my pick of color.
Does it seem like a fair trade in, given that the sea dweller needs the $725 service and I'd get that price without the service being done? If you only had the SS Daytona as your only Rolex for the foreseeable future, would you lean toward choosing the white or black dial? Thanks for any insight. |

If I can only have one Rolex, it would be the SD. If I save up for a Daytona, it would be the white dial.
Good luck! |

I prefer the white dial as I found the black dial extremely hard to read

Both watches are so different. I'd choose the SD because I need the date function.

I have both, the Daytona is not as easy to read at a glance compared to the Sea-Dweller. If the Daytona is to be your one and only watch this may be an issue for you.
Personally as much as I love my Daytona it would go before the Dweller. As for the price you'd be better off checking the classifieds for current values. |

I think having a date on the watch is really nice. I would keep the Deep Sea and purchase a Daytona at a later date (no pun intended). Keep in mind too that there are a lot of rumors about what Rolex may do with the anniversary edition of the Daytona this year. |

I've had several of both and as much as I love the SD, the SS Daytona won. It's fun to time things for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I could care less about not having a date function. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I've had white SS Daytona for a year and just ordered SD(v) which is on the way to me now. Date is important function to me so my Daytona doesn't get a lot of wrist time although I really enjoy everything about daytona. with SD in the rotation, daytona will likely get even less wrist time. Why don't you keep SD and start saving up for daytona? resale SD price has gone quite a bit, if you have complete ok conditioned SD, you should sell mid to high 5k in the forum. my humble 2 cents.

I would keep the SD, it's been discontinued now and should increase in value as time passes. Buy the Daytona.

I think its a pretty good trade in allowance, considering it needs a service. Do what you like, but I think I would rather have the Sea Dweller and the cash to buy another Rolex...

I wonder how much your place would give you without you buying the Daytona??? I'd imagine it's like trading in a car...when they charge you full MSRP for the new one what's another couple $k for your clunker? I'm not calling a SD a clunker (it's my favorite) but you get what I mean. |

Get the Daytona! the Sea Dweller does nothing for me, too big and chunky.

I've had my steel dial TT Daytona for about a month now. My only concern is that it is sometimes hard for me to tell the time with a quick glance when I'm not wearing reading glasses. There's not a lot of contrast between the hands and dial. I know the real problem is my vision, but I don't have the same trouble with my other watches. If you can, test the Daytona under different lighting conditions for "readability" before your purchase. |

Daytona is a very comfortable watch. Get it. Here is mine. White of course. You have been wearing black for a decade.

Is this thread for real I can't beleive I'm really reading this . I bought a sea dweller on 2/18 and had a small imperfection on the dial on the crown like missing a spec of paint so I was all work up for 2 weeks so I decide this morning to sell it back to my dealer with a minimal loss of a 5% more or less , we'll to get to the point I call my buddy up that get all kinds of rolexes from other dealer and flipped my yachtmaster paltry and the cash from the sea dweller and purchased a daytona white dial v serial mint I'm so happy
I kinda miss the sea dweller but I will get another sea dweller soon no I know I only want a non case hole sea dweller . I will save and hunt down a good one But I see here I'm not the only one that had flipped recently a ss and gotten a daytona |
