insurance?
Newbie here.
With one in the can and one on the way after just a month....this is bad. Do you guys carry an insurance rider on your homeowners for loss / theft? Just curious... |

Absolutely! It covers mysterious disappearance as well, and there is no deductible if you have to make a claim.
Most policies have a maximum limit on jewelry ($10,000) unless you have the items scheduled. Then you have the $10,000 plus the amount of your scheduled items. Also, if you travel, you can prove ownership, as your stuff is properly identified and documented. |

Yup. Problem is that my insurance premium could buy me a new watch every couple of years!

Yes, it's a rider on my homeowners. Will cover theft, damage, or loss at home or away. Costs about $1.50/month per $1k of coverage.

Everyone's experience varies. Like Mike said, the premium mounts up. You just have to calculate the odds of a total loss. Unlike some have said, your HO policy may have a deductible. When all's said and done, if you can afford a single loss then the extra cost may not be worth it.
But if you can't afford to replace a Rolex, then insurance is a no-brainer...

Jewelers Mutual for me, I insure my wife's jewelery and my watches through them. I didn't want to tie them to Home Owners because I don't want to have my home owners canceled if either of us make a claim.

Ed,
I went with Jeweler's Mutual after doing my research. It's my understanding that they not only cover theft but accidental damage as well. I applied and paid online, my annual premium is $96.00. If you go with them you need an appraisal, my AD did mine at the time of purchase. Believe it or not I didn't take my watch out of the box until I had confirmation of my policy being in effect. Might seem like a silly purchase to some but just imagine dropping that new 114060 of yours and having 2-3K in damages. Shattered crystal, broken bezel insert, scratched dial and a service all because of a drop... yikes. You might get more opinions on this if you also post it in the general discussion forum. Hope you're having a great weekend Ed.

I use Jeweler's Mutual. I've never had to make a claim (knock on wood), but I've heard that they handle claims well.

On my homeowners. It's without a limit.
I do have my watches registered with serials and pics. When on trips abroad, I have a 20.000 euro insurance covering all personal goods. While this isn't always enough, depending on what watch I bring, It was hard enough to get the 20K travelers goods insurance... It was peanuts to pay though.

Trouble with all Insurance today we all pay it hoping in most cases we will never need to use it.And no matter how much you pay for your insurance company its only as good as when you have a problem and they have to pay out.
