I like them but I have to admit I didn't start out that way. At first, I just assumed that this brand was mainly living off their name and didn't do much work except for solid styling. It turns out they do much better than this. Another factor which appeals to me is that for a luxury brand, they also keep the maintenance costs reasonable, similar to Rolex and Omega. They are well worth a look, especially if you appreciate their styling.

My first fine timepiece was a Cartier Tank Francais (mid-size). It was my first big purchase after entering the workforce at 21. I loved that watch and pretty much wore it daily for 7 years...when I sold it I got 90% of what I paid. Not bad!!!

I still think Cartier makes beautiful timepieces. My sister recently got a ladies Roadster with rose dial. Very elegant.

I have the Santo 100 and I love it. Some consider Cartier to be a fashion watch, but they are also very fine time pieces. Cartier is very tough when it comes to QC. I sell their writing instruments and the company as a whole is top notch.

I like their santos 100 to and tried it on. Their roadster is well branded, in magazines and such. I like the way the roadster looks, it comes in a nice box with an extra strap too, as well as different sizes. I like the watch, but not enough to but it yet.

I liked the feel of the santos 100 on. I didn't like that the base didn't have a date, and the chronograph that did have a date had a rather small date. I like my watch rather clutter free, but an easy to read date like the Rolex styles. Or the dates with larger numbers. This watch didn't feel cheap at all though, and I think it fills a void that Rolex leaves out. Quality with more modern looking fashion. In some cases a younger look.

Cartier has a long and illustrious history, and is a cultural icon. I own a Pasha ss w/ black dial and steel strap. It is elegant and timeless imo.

I don't wear mine as often as I might, the Pannies and Rolex's get more wrist time. But I take it out and look at it frequently, and when the occasion is special it is the perfect thing... Larry.

My everyday watch is my CARTIER SS/18k "gold-screw" Santos watch. I have owned Cartier's since I was a teenager (14 years ago). Allow me to share my experience:

1. THEY ARE TOP QUALITY in EVERY WAY. Who ever say's these are "fashion watches" are incorrect. They are the real thing. Tight QC , very tight.

2. ZERO problems with my watch in terms of function. Nothing has come loose, nothing has come apart, nothing has stopped working, nothing has worn out or changed colors.

3. Excellent re-sale value. I have gotten 75 - 90% of my investment back after 5 - 7 years of use.

4. Excellent BRAND RECOGNITION, I have gotten many: "Wow, that's a Cartier, right?"

5. Excellent model carry over, which helps to retain the value of your watch. Except for certain things in the clasp, the Santos is still the same Santos since I can remember.

6. These are gentlemens watches, they are not divers watched or "tool" watches.

7. They deliver positive results for class and elegance.

Sammy Davis, Jr. wore a large gold Cartier watch given to him by Frank Sinatra. He was so fond of it that he was even buried in it. They must be good watches. Frank didn't purchase trash or give it away as gifts.

Never tried one on, but Cartier are supposed to be THE classic gentlemans formal watch....much like a Rolex Sub is the classic sports watch. Anyone got any more pictures of formal Cartier watches ?
