Trade up Sub or add Breitling?

I presently own a V series ceramic sub and am considering trading up to a V series black dial two-tone Sub or adding a pre-owned Breitling chronomat to my collection. The net cost would be slightly greater to add the Breitling. I love my Sub, but the two-tone is very tempting. I can't afford to do both. Any suggestions?

....but if the TT Sub will be your only watch then no. Probably add the Breitling.

Why is that???? I have used a TT Sub as my only watch for 4 years when I first started collecting.

To the OP, Get the TT Sub, it looks like nothing else.

The question is, which Chronomat? There's a big difference between, say, an old school A13050 and a Chronomat 44.

I have had nothing but trouble with Breitling dated back to 1969. Won't own a other.

Do you want one watch or two?
Do you want the TT badly enough if it is your only watch?
If you buy the Breitling are you still going to want the TT Sub?

I won't consider Breitling on a par with Rolex. They are a good marketing company but some models have quartz movements and others are bought in from sub contract manufacturers.
Stick with Rolex!

My wifes quartz Breitling Galactic has kept time to the second for up to 4 months.

Perhaps you can elaborate on your statement about "sub contract manufacturers"?

What I expect he means is that they use movements from ETA just like many other high brands have done so for decades.And many ETA movements can match or equal and sometimes surpass some so called in-house made brand movements today.Not all ETA movements are equal as they make 5 grades in most ebauche movements, most high end brands like Tudor Breitling use the top grade ETA/Valjoux ebauche movements in there range.

and whats exactly so bad about the Super Quartz movements??? it not an ordinary quartz movement you find in a 10 dollar watch.

just curious what do you mean by "others are bought from sub contract manufacturers"? do you mean that their base movements are ETA/Valjoux that have been modified?? if so again I dont really see the big deal there either.

I dont think that anyone considers Breitling on par with Rolex in terms of market share or making stuff in house. If anything I think Rolex is a much better marketing company than Breitling.

I rather have one watch I really want than 2 watches that I like but not as much if it was the "one." So if the TT is what you have been desiring, get it. You can always earn more money down the road and get the Breitling at a later time.

I have had several Breitlings over the last 10 years. No trouble with any of them, but I tired of the style. I have only 1 left, an M1 Super Quartz which is 10 years old and has needed only a few batteries over those years. I prefer mech but it's a nice watch overall.

Dependent on which year / model... I prefer the SS chronomat to a TT sub, but ymmv. Please try both on and compare build quality for yourself before making an opinion based on our feedback. Also, I have found there's not a lot of love for Breitling on trf... Lots of people are worried about resale value which is lower, but I never sell, so I buy what I like and not the secondary market.

If you're trading a SS Sub C for a 16613, shouldn't you actually be getting some money back? Bob's Watches, for instance, sells and buys SS Sub C's for about $1.3k more than 16613's.

I think now is a great time to buy two-tone secondhand; if you get a good trade maybe you can put some change towards your Chronomat!

I'm not a Breitling fan nor will I ever be. They are like Tag Heuer to me; undesirable watches. However, all that matter is that the watch makes YOU happy.

Thanks to all for the input. I have, besides the Sub, an Anonimo, a Magrette and relatively inexpensive casual and sport watches (Mondaine, Traser, Huarex, Citizen, Seiko, Casio, Suunto, Invicta). I have had Breitling in the past and liked them except for resale. Will probably hold off for a while, but am inclined to keep the Sub and save for a Breitling, maybe a less costly model like a Superocean Abyss 42 or 44.

The only Breitling I will own and will wear is a Chronomat B01 also known as Chronomat 44 now. It has the in-house movement with a 70 hour power reserve and it's movement is built the same if not better than most Rolex timepieces. I am getting an 18k rose and stainless Chronomat B01 next week for a steal deal.
