Appraisel vs Serial Number date

Is it possible to have an appraisal date of July 2002 but the watch serial number begins with a "Y" (September 2002).

Thanks

The "Y" series began in mid-2002.

Your question does not ask that.

You ask if a Sept 2002 watch can have a July 2002 appraisal.. I would say that would not make sense...

My question to you is do you have evidence that the watch was actually manufactured or first sold in Sept.....??

What I am doing is trying to verify someone's serial number. The watch was "supposedly" lost in shipment. When the shipper emails me the appraisal it looks completely homemade. The appraisal is not on a letter head of any kind and the company's telephone number that did the appraisal has been disconnected. Also, the appraisal was not signed.

I don't know much about a Rolex but everything I have found on this forum and other sites say the serial number beginning with "Y" did not come into play until September of 2002 So it seems hard to have an appraisal done 2 months before the watches are even sold.

I believe this could be a scam, however I would like some hard proof before they are confronted.

Thanks

All I have is the serial number. No watch, nothing but a model number and serial number. All I have been able to find out is that "Y" came in September 2002. However, this person's appraisal on this watch was done in July 2002. I guess my question is, according to the sticky chart at this forum, can this happen? How can someone have a watch in their hand to be appraised in July of 2002 when the chart says it did not come out until September 2002.

Thanks,

Appraisals aren't worth a jot in anycase, unless done by Rolex themselves.

The matter in hand is the whereabouts of the watch that you have purchased. Could you give us further details, seller details and reputation, original advert, price paid, payment method, shippping & insurances details?

Help will then be more forthcoming.

Let's discount the serial number for this discussion. Rolex has not actually released to anyone when one number starts and another begins, so it is the best guess of the samples that have been seen in circulation. It is also safe to say that serial numbers K, Y, and F were being assembled concurrently with K starting somewhere in 2001, Y in 2002 and F in 2003.. and approximately mid-year for each.

So lets address the appraisal:

From what you say about the "appraisal", I would go out on a limb and say that it is worthless.

If an appraisal does not come from a competent and verifiable source, then it is no more than a statement, and invalid for anything other than conversation.
