Rolex & Omega...

Hi, I think Rolex and Omega have a long history and journey.But I think Rolex won the race over Omega a lil' bit. Rolex still number one, but...Omega ain't bad too. If they compare one and other is like:
1. In music world like The Beatles vs Rolling Stones, whatever Stones do, The Beatles still better than 'em. But I like Stones too.
2. In automotive Mercides vs BMW, whatever BMW do, the inovation Mercides still win a step.But I like BMW too.
3. In cigarette like Marlboro vs Lucky Strike.
4. In soft drink, like Coca Cola vs Pepsi.
5. In junk food like Krispy Creme vs Dunkin' Donuts.
6. In Heavy Metal band like Led Zeppelin vs Deep Purple, but I like Purple too. But Zeppelin is AWESOME band!!!
7. Etc (you can write other companion if you like)
But really I like Omega too, but Rolex already won my heart, THE BEST!!! Once again just my opinion here!!! Please your reply here...THANKS DUDES!!!Best Regards, TR.

I don't see it as one brand against the other. But there are some Rolex that I like and some Omegas that I really prefer over certain Rolex.

Take for instance this Omeag the quality of the watch and the value it represents, I don't consider it to be inferior to Rolex, but that is just me

For Chronographs, I would choose Rolex mainly due to:

(a) No date;
(b) pushers have to be unscrewed to be used;
(c) I prefer 42mm watches


Each brand has its pros and cons. Not one would always be 100% well received. Look at the Clownmaster II :p

Surely you meant to say for chronos you WOULDN'T pick Rolex if you list the above reasons.

a) downside right? Maybe aside from dial asthetics.
b) a pain -- others equally waterproof without this restriction. Plus you can't forget to do what isn't required before getting it wet.
c) Daytona is 40mm

Oh, I thought the Daytona was the only Rolex chrono and it was a 40mm watch. Sorry.

To me the other "features" are generally considered annoyances but that's personal opinion of course.

I almost purchased this watch, and still may.

I've heard the Omega does not wear/age as well as a Rolex, I'm rough on my work watches and would rather scratch up a Seiko than an Omega.

I've banged SS Subs pretty good and they show very little wear

If I'm not working, I'd rather "dress" with a Rolex than an Omega. I guess that's why I don't have the Omega Seamaster GMT yet.

Again though, good looking watch

My biggest issue with Omega is the shape of the lugs. Can't figure out why it irritates me soooooo much. I can't stand their form, its always that shiny side of the case curving to become the lug with a ridge that splits the finish so on one side polished the other brushed.

Well, there is also the lousy service in the US as well. Perhaps others had a better experience with their service, but I was not happy with them. They were better than TAG Heuer service, but not by much. RSC on the other hand has been superb. I couldn't believe how well they refinished my old Date that was in terrible shape after years of abuse. TAG Heuer ruined the shot peened finish on my (now sold) McLaren special edition Titanium MP4/16 watch. They not only refinished it wrong, they took almost 6 months to do it and cost more than RSC.

To put it simply, the above experience made me sell anything I had that wasn't Rolex and decide that's all I am buying from now on.

I agree. I currently own 3 Omeags and 1 Rolex and I love them all equally.

My problem is Omega's service. I own a white GMT and sent it in for warranty work and to regulate. Sent it on September 20, and its not back yet. My friend who manages a Ben Bridge says that he tells his Omega customers that they can expect a 14 week delay in service.

Omega just haven't got the back up service in place. I once sent 3 Speedmasters from my collection in for service and after 5 visits each back and fore to Swiss Time Services they went back a further 3 times each to Switzerland before they were right. The work was terrible. They claim to check their work but let me tell you they can't possibly do. The faults the watches came back with you'd think baby monkeys had been servicing them. Needless to say I no longer collect Omega watches. I love the look of the Speedmaster but it doesn't have the build of any Rolex. If I was an astronaut it would be a Rolex on my wrist. I could never tust an Omega to be reliable. The seconds hands jump on the new ones and although the bracelets look nice they have cheap pins holding the links together. It wouldn't have cost them a lot to have used quality screws. It's a real shame as it is a beautiful watch.

So it seems even service in Switzerland is bad too, not just the US. As much as I like the Speedmaster, I will never buy another one because my experience was similar to yours with US service.

Its something few consider when buying a watch. Its no different than a car. If there isn't good support, the product will suffer.

Omega's are fine watches. I could never get them to fit. I do miss my old 1120 c. Seamaster.

I can't wait until I get the COSC timing sheet.

Can you believe that Omega actually go out of their way after the watch has been sold to obtain the original and send it around the other side of the world.

I don't know why Rolex doesn't do it , but it really is a huge thrill that Omega does this for the enthusiast.

That's right, Steve.....OMEGA have always sent the original COSC certficate with the serial no., etc. and all the different timings with respect to temperature, etc.

The day Rolex does that......well, that will be THE day!!

There is no need to compare, assuming service and reliability is in check for a specific timepiece. Nevertheless, I know it's in our nature to make these comparisons, good vs. evil; vibrant vs. dull; tall vs. short; etc., etc., etc. I can appreciate a Rolex, Omega, Tag H., and even a Timex for their authenticity and utilitarian purpose. Appreciate each piece for what it is and what it does--JMHO.

I agree 100% and I own the Timex TX Series 770 PVD Flyback Chronograph with PVD coating... beautiful watch indeed!
