Experiences with USPS Registered Mail

All right friends, I may have a problem.

I had my Rosie (179161) and Bluesy (16613) sent via USPS Registered Priority mail, insured for the full retail value of the watches. They were sent from CA to MN on 12/21. They have not arrived yet, but another package from the same place sent on 12/26 arrived today. So my 2 Rollies have not gotten here a week later and something else only took 2 days. My mail carrier thinks there may be a problem too.

Who has used Registered Mail via USPS Priority and shipping time. If you have had a claim, what is the process?

Hey, I sent a watch from FL to Ca via registered mail. It took over a week. The also thought there was somthing wrong but in the end, it made it. Just wait another few days. Its also the holidays.

I agree about waiting a few more days.
Registered mail is THE safest way to go, and I've never had problems with it.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for a safe delivery of your timepieces!

Registered usually means there's a tracking number. It should have scanned somewhere along the way. What does the tracking status indicate?

Status indicates that it was received by the Post Office in Lake Tahoe on 12/21. Later on 12/21 it says it was processed in Reno. Nothing since it was processed on 12/21. Mailman said it should show arrived at MSP Airport the following day, or shortly thereafter, considering it's the holidays.

You can go to the USPS web site and put in the tracking number. It will tell you the status of the package.

USPS Registered mail can be slower than other methods, but it's cheap and safe. The package gets signed for every stop it makes, which is for added security.

Not sure if it's fully trackable, only tracked when it leaves and when it arrives. Sometimes you can get more info if you call USPS.

Usually, my experience with registered USPS has been fairly good. However, one recent experience makes me wonder.

I purchased something on-line and it was shipped to my office address via registered mail. It was tracked leaving and arriving. Unfortuantely, it arrived on a Saturday when my office (and the entire building) is closed. The postal carrier nevertheless marked it as delivered. Of coure I never received it and now I'm trying to prove to PayPal that I never got it even though the tracking information shows it as having been delivered. The PO has been noticeably unhelpful so far. But I am still working on it.

That's a real shame Ed. I though that since there was a solid paper trail it would be easy to trace.

Probelm is, Dan, the paper trail ends when it's shown as being delivered. But either the postal delivery person was lazy and just showed it as being delievered or something happened to it after it was left somewhere at the building.

FexEx is much better. If you request a signature for dielivery, they will actually post a screen shot of the signature when the package is delivered.

Well, it's all I prefer to use. It's slow but it's the safest. Consider also a holiday was in there which slows things more.

Are you sure it was sent registered mail and not delivery confirmation or certified mail?

Registered mail is usually reserved for something of value, say over $1000. Anything up to that is usually taken care of with insured mail that doesn't necessarily require a signature. So it can be scanned as delivered when in unfortunately it hasn't been
Delivery Confirmation doesn't require a sig either. Certified mail only requires a sig by the receiver if it has a return receipt with it.

Also with our new scanners, we have to take a pic of the signature whenever there's one required.

Now might be the time to dig around for your original receipts/invoices for your two watches. Call USPS and tell them to run a trace on the package - if it doesn't show up within a week from them opening the case, I assume they'll let you know how to proceed with the insurance claim. Best of luck with that, I've heard mixed stories.

Still MIA after 8 days. Anyone have any experiences in getting paid on a Registered Insurance claim?

I've contacted my AD and said I will need a statement of value, and copies of the paperwork showing price tags and serial #'s.

USPS website says that you have to wait 15 days before filing a claim.

It's to early to file claim. You have to wait 30-days. Even though you can't track it online the P.O. can. Go down to your local P.O. and speak to the Postmaster or manager. They should be able to track its precise movements from their computer system. Extremely rare a registered package gets lost or stolen, but common that they are late with delivery.

My guess David is that it's taking a little longer than usual due to the recent Christmas holiday. For the past month the number of packages we handle are numerous compared to the rest of the year, so give it some time.

As others have stated, registered mail is signed for by everyone that handles it, so chances of it getting lost are slim.

What stinks about it is USPS' website doesn't display signatures online or update scans until later on at night.

I once waited 15 business days for a registered package from Calf. to NJ. I wouldn't worry its insured anyway.

NOTHING UPDATES. CHILL OUT. LOL

Its only been 8 days, not including holidays and sundays. Chill out. You gotta understand, registered mail takes longer as its signed for at every stop. That doesnt mean they update the location. The people in charge of the reigistered mail are like in there own section at the post office. Thats all they handle.

RELAX. Its not lost. Believe me, the USPS doesnt want to pay a claim on it. They wont lose it.

I have had a 4,500 US $ Dunhill pipe sent from the USA via USPS Registered Mail, fully insured. It arrived after 10 days. No problems, at all.

The last USPS Registered package I received took 5 business days just to go from WA to CA. I've never had a lost package with Registered Mail, and I'm betting you'll see it soon.

USPS Global Express is very good, it provides a tracking number for added security.

Bo you could have had a new Rolex for the price of your pipe, but I guess whatever you're smokin it must be pretty good
