Rolex on leather?

I'd like to give my 16713 a try on leather. I wear my other watches on leather and rubber, so I thought I'd give this a try. I picked out a strap maker, but I see padded vs not padded as an option. Does anyone have pics of their watch on one or the other? Specifically Subs or GMTs so I can see them to help me decide. I looked around the site but I guess it's hard for me to tell which is which. For some reason I expect the padded ones to be dramatically taller.

Anyone have any pics for me?

I'd agree with that. Except perhaps the odd DJ?

A 16713 would look great on a black leather strap!

What do you have on it currently? My dads got the oyster on his 16713.

Been there, done that! My watch is a Datejust but the band was padded and I much preferred it to a thin leather band.

Very nice watch/strap combination!

My new leather strap finally arrived today. I went with a Gunny. I'm going to wait until I pick up some new spring bars before I put it on my GMT. The last time I changed out a bracelet on one of my other watches I launched a spring bar across the room by accident. I don't want to do that again since these are my only 20mm spring bars

Anyway, here's a pic of the new strap. Pics on the watch to follow.....

I've seen that thread. In part that's why I started this thread, I know people have leather on their watches, I was just looking to see if anyone had something I hadn't seen yet or padded vs not side by side.

That is exactly what I'm looking for. Well, I don't know about the contrasting stitching, I'm thinking all black. But that's the height I want, so I guess that's not padded then?

This has been helpful guys thanks. Right now I'm thinking black without padding. I just have to decide between contrasting stitching or not. Hmmm...

Thanks again for all the pics. They all look awesome.

That's padded? That's not as tall as I was envisioning. That looks great.

Padded just means a raised center (sandwich) with edge stitching.. It's more a look than it is a description as it can be very subtle..

Yes, it is padded!

I really wanted a band with white stitches but all black ones are pretty easy to find as well, you should be able to get exactly what you are looking for with a quick search on Ebay or in any jewelry store.

I have done several searches and have an idea what brand I would like. The limiting factor for me has been my desire to eventually get a Rolex buckle on it. So, I'll need a band that tapers to 16mm. That, and I've bought cheap leather bands before and have found that you pretty much get what you pay for, lol. I'd like this to be a decent set up since I think the watch deserves that.

Great looking watches guys! I appreciate all the pics!

I've tried one or two exotic straps on my vintage sub, for fun, but it didn't last long. Much prefer the oyster bracelets and NATOs on my Rolex watches. To me they just don't look right on leather.

Here's a couple of mine courtesy of ABP in Paris.....

Both of these are what you would called padded straps and both have curved end attachments so there is less of a gap where it connects to the lugs.

16800 on alligator

1680 on ostrich
