Sounds like a good idea to me! Personally, the DD 118238 in YG and with a silver coloured dial is the DD I would go for! I visited my AD recently and had a look at it: Click here! Please post pics when you get it.

I all any kind of day date except from the black dial. I think that the black dial is hard to read

I would tend to vote YG, but this is only personal preference. If I were choosing for myself, I would go with WG.

I've had my YG DD for a month now and I love it. As for the combo...it's up to you. There are all different bezels, dials, YG/WG/RG/Plat, etc...
